We headed over to Bedok South Blk 18 for e.Black Board....
I asked Leoie and Diane along coz they were staying just nearby.
Their menu....
Ordered their Waldorf salad to share..
The salad arrived after a 10 minutes wait. Honestly, have never tasted Waldorf salad previously so i'm not too sure of how it should actually taste. It comes with chunks of green and red apple, walnuts, olives, capciscium (yellow, green and red ones), celery, raisins and lettuce. Overall i found the taste alright. Diane didnt quite like it though.
We were left to munch on the salad for the next 10 minutes until we tried to enquire how long our items would arrive. We didnt quite see many customers around but somehow our food just never seemed to arrive.
20 minutes after we ordered, my 250 grams of ribeye steak arrived....
speaking of which, i was under the impression that they have a 300 grams of steak for $11. However, when i enquired, the boss said the 300 grams one is no longer available. He said reason is customer's feedback is they prefer a 250 grams portion. But what i was surprised was, the price was not $11 but $12.90. Hmm.. did customers also prefer to pay a higher price for lesser steak? But ok, considering its only a $2 difference.. i guess overall its still pretty value for money.
My steak was medium done...
which i believe it was nicely done as per requested.
by the time my steak arrived, all 3 of us were starving.. Diane was the first to have a taste of the steak.. her first comment was " why is it not hot? ". I tried it for myself and i agreed. Considering it was served to us right after it was cooked, i cant quite understand why its not hot either. Not to say its cold but its actually only lukewarm. The steak was rather tender though.. taste was not too bad as well.
I requested for my fries to be changed to mashed potato. The mashed potato was very watery. Taste was mild. I found it alright (not superb nice but edible) but Diane and Leoie didnt like it one bit. They felt that even the instant 7-11 Maggi mashed potato tasted better. I've never tried the 7-11 mashed so i can't compare.
the coleslaw was also nothing impressive.
by the time i was already halfway done with my steak, the jumbo sausage (garlic and cheese) arrived....
usually we're not particular about the speed of the food being served but because they really took very long, we couldnt help but notice. With the timings of the pictures in my camera, we realised that we had waited 30 minutes for this sausage to be served.
Leoie who was starving was getting very pissed with the long wait.
The inside of the sausage....
I found the sausage quite good. Good thickness and hot enough. The mashed potato was still cold though. I didnt like the sauce that came with it. It tasted like some bbq sauce to me and i personally dun like the taste (this is a very subjective and personal preference). However, we all agreed that this sausage is too overpriced. It costs $7!
Leoie and Diane didn't find the sausage nice at all though.
Leoie and Diane's mains came together. 35 minutes after we ordered.
Diane ordered the lamb chops...
again, it was lukewarm, not hot. Diane was telling me, because its lamb, its tastes quite bad when its not hot. Diane and Leoie said its rather tasteless on the inside although on the menu it reads aromatic lamb chops or something. The lamb chops were also quite fatty.
Tried the fries. I preferred Botak Jone's fries. Loved their spices. However, Leoie and Diane thinks that Botak Jone's fries is yummy on first few tastes but they got tired of it very soon. They prefer e.Blackboard's.
Leoie had the fish and chips....
the inside of the fish...
The fish was quite fresh but its a pity it was not well fried. It was not golden brown but rather, it was somewhat almost dark brown and sadly, quite dry.
Leoie who waited so very long was very displeased with his order. When Diane insisted he give a rating, he gave a zero! haha.. He said he would give negative if it was an option. Leoie is quite particular about fish and chips (considering thats almost the only item he'll order when he goes for western food).
the whole meal came up to around $36
Overall, the experience was rather disappointing except maybe for the steak. The stall keeper did come over to ask us how was the food and we gave our honest opinons. He told us they are rather shorthanded today because the chef is not around (ahh.. maybe that explains the taste). I guess he probably didnt expect us to give such bad feedbacks and he walked away rather awkwardly but he did mention that he will consider changing supplier for the lamb chops.
Leoie was comparing the service between Botak Jones and e.Blackboard and feels that Botak Jone's was much better.
I guess if like the owner said, they are shorthanded and chef not being around, maybe we'll give this place another try one of these days.

Seems like Bryan is coming up with many "hiccups" in his business. Well, I think I can forget about going there again. The first bad experience and now the up in price with shrinking of the steak...doesn't sound appealing.
actually the steak is seriously still considered value for money. And it is tender just surprised why its not served hot. I may still give it another try. But the steak aside, im not sure of the other items.
