Astons

The gathering tonight is to be held at Astons. Its located at Katong (facing Katong Mall)....

when we got there, we noticed that there was this long queue.....

when we tried to check on our reservations, we were told they've got no records of our reservations. Kelvin who made the reservations was still on the way so in the end Lea and myself started to queue for seats.

Lea and myself were actually amazed at how the people around seemed more den willing to queue for this place. Is it really that good? We noticed that this was the only restaurant around with such a long queue outside. The other restaurants were practically quiet.

After about 20 mins when the rest arrived, Kelvin managed to settle the reservations issue with the staff there. Apparently, Kelvin did make a reservation but the staff forgot to write it down.

the interior of the place...

the place really quite small.. but seats were alright.

Their menu....

and u know what? This time aside from me, there were other food enthus taking pics of the place and the food. haha...

Attendance tonight was Kelvin (fatpig) and his friend, Akira and Ivan, liquidshadow and gf.

We were sharing a table with liquidshadow and gf and that chats were pretty ok. The gf was recommending Hog's Breath's prime ribs (which got me drooling really).

Drinks wise we ordered a promotional pack of 6 bottles of IBC root beer....

the root beer was alright.. root beer...

ordered an iced lemon tea ($1.50) for lea...

Their iced lemon tea was good!

We had a wagyu steak ($38.90) to share...

we were given choice of 2 sides. Their sides included baked potato, baked beans, potato salad, mashed potato, seasoned veggie, pasta salad, french fries, tasty rice, french beans and .. cant remember the rest.

My choice of baked potato and tasty rice were out. We had the fries and pasta salad.

A close up of the steak....

the pasta salad side...

Tasted similar to kenny roger's pasta salad but i kinda prefer Kenny Roger's.

The fries...

i wonder if its a trend now. Most places (think one rochester, botak jones and e.blackboard) are adding spices and seasoning to their fries. Which is a good thing i guess. I found the seasoning they use here comparatively slightly milder den the rest. My favourite is still One Rochester's.

The wagyu was done middle rare...

It was juicy, tender and tasty. The seasoning was done well. But i think the portion was small (was still hungry!!). Honestly i didnt find it value for money. But i did notice that their other cuts of beef (sirloin and ribeye) were between $9.90 to around $15? I'd think those were more value for money.. but i've not tried them so not sure about the taste.

Next up was the ieat Superburger ($12.50)....

It was huge!

other views of the burger...

it was layered with vege, tomato, bacon, onion, cheese and the beef patty. The taste of the burger came mainly from the bacon and onion. Found the beef patty a lil tasteless and unsatisfying.

But one thing i like about the place was that they don't have those additional +++ when the bill came. No service charge or GST blah blah blah (although they probably have already factored it in). will probably be back to try the other cuts of steak.
