Lionel and i went over to Lawry's....
the entrance....
the front counter area where a xmas tree was placed along with the festive season....
this old victorian style deco...
right when we went in, there was no one at the counter but there was actually this indian guy seated on the right directly facing the counter. As he was also in a uniform, its apparent he's also a staff there but very surprisingly, he saw us standing there for quite awhile but he merely continued sitting there and waited for the counter lady to come out. He didnt even assist to do anything to call for the lady or anything. This really surprised me since this is supposed to be a very high end steak house.
and some pictures of the interior dining area....
their menu...
Lionel and myself were pretty sure we wanted the lawry's cut prime ribs (285 g). The server did try to recommend us this Flambe item. Its 200 g of either sirloin or tenderloin.. one of US, one from aussie (cant remember which is which). Apparently the manager will cook it in front of us.. Lionel felt it sounded abit gimmicky and 200 grams doesnt appeal to us. heh.
We were first served bread and butter....
when the server brought this to us, she vaguely introduced the two bread. apparently one is white and the other is some duno wat nut. Didnt quite catch wat she said mainly because she was rushing thru the introduction. In fact she did this for the rest of the meal as well. It felt like she was just doing it coz she had to and it didnt concern her whether we understood or catch what she's saying or not.
the bread was not warm. Lionel was commenting that they using the napkins to wrap around the bread was to keep the bread warm but the bread is not even warm in the first place. haha. i thot that was funny.
our prime ribs included a spinning bowl salad, mashed potato and yorkshire pudding.
Apparently, their spinning bowl salad is one of their signature dishes...
the server would push out a cart with a big bowl of ice and another metal bowl of greens on top of the bowl of ice (as per pic). The salad is den spinned and tossed in front of us.
see how she spins....
the spinning performance did look fun.
the salad when served to us....
if u look clearly, the vege doesnt look very fresh. Im not saying they are not fresh. Im just saying they dun look very fresh. and taste wise, i tell u, its only thousand island dressing salad. What a disappointment. I think i may be able to make even better salad at home!
we were recommended to add this Lawry's black pepper to our salad.....
Was told it goes very well with the salad. Well, we did add them to our salad to let the pepper over power the thousand island.
next we were served the horse radish.....
We were told one's more spicy, one's milder (something like that... Still didnt quite catch wat the lady said coz like i said, she seemed to be just rattling on w/o caring if we understand... just doing her job?). Tastes abit like wasabi.. its for u to add onto ur prime rib.
the Yorkshire Pudding....
another series of blabbering by the lady.. i gave up at this point already... dun care, just eat. It tastes abit eggy. Not bad but nothing amazing.
While chatting and waiting for our food, we realised we were not asked about our preference for the doneness of our steak. When we tried to check with one of the servers, she didnt listen to our question and den jumped into thinking we're asking for recommendations for the doneness den she was saying we can maybe ask for well done or medium well or duno wat. Very weird answers. So anyway, we later realised we'll be asked of the doneness when the wagon arrives at our table.
The wagon....
the chef preparing our orders....
inside the wagon is the meat....
And the different sides....
since our prime rib includes mashed potato and the sides costs at least $6 plus each, we didnt order any other sides.
finally, our prime rib!
The prime rib was good. It was tender and juicy as i thought it was. But maybe because we've both tried Hogs Breath's so we werent exactly wow-ed. But yes, it was good and satisfying. The Yorkshire pudding as well, it tasted pretty good after soaking up the sauce.
A closer up view of the prime rib....
im still pretty much salivating as im looking at the picture. However, this is not a place where i'll return unless its a treat (its way too expensive). I'd probably prefer to head back to the cheaper alternatives like Hogs Breath or Phins when i need to satisfy that steak craving. Heard from Jeff that Black Angus is really good too!
In order to top up to $200, we ordered a one tail lobster to share ($26)...
its very pricey if u ask me. The picture may make the lobster look big but trust me, its small. But honestly, it was really tasty. It was flavoursome and yummy.
We were pretty full already so we decided to share a dessert. Lionel said one of the dessert they are famous for is their creme brulee (around $8 plus).
its served with strawberry and blueberries at the top. It doesnt look very impressive and i was expecting it to be just another of those ordinary creme brulee. BUT, its actually the MOST ROBUST TASTING CREME BRULEE i've ever had. Its really good.
at the end of the meal, we were informed that we could have a turn on the lucky wheel...
we took a close look at the wheel.. we looked through some of the prizes and we're more enthu to win the lawrys vouchers. hehe..
I did the turn and we ended up with this....
at first, when i saw cranswick estate, i was thinking wow! i won an ESTATE! hahahaha... chey.. it was some dessert wine...

Er.. you might want to drink that Botrytis Semillon pretty soon. Although it's fortified as with most dessert wines because of the high sugar content, it's still a white and is best drank within about 6-8years. Drink it with crushed ice and squeeze of fresh lemon juice. Very nice =)
heh.. i dun really drink so i let lionel (liquidshadow) bring the bottle back. i'll alert him on this!
