Basil Alcove

At around 8 plus, ah yee and uncle sq came home with ping jie jie and together with Joanne, we headed over to Basil Alcove at Fortune Centre!

As i've previously mentioned, they actually have a new menu for November but its actually not confirmed yet. They are still trying to test and try out the dishes before confirming the items hence the new items are written on a white board....

When i tried to order caesar salad, Xander said its actually out. But i told him i specially came down for the salad and he was so nice to specially try to squeeze out one portion for me....

THANK CUTE XANDER!

The caesar salad was a thumbs up!! The rest agreed. Ping jie jie especially liked the warm bacon.

Joanne opted for a salad.. the Broiled Scallops with Green Frisee ($8.90)...

The scallops felt abit unfresh. Joanne said it seemed to taste like it was frozen before. We did forward it to xander. He was saying this batch of scallops only came in today and he'll check on it.

The dressing for the frisee was very good though! It was a lil on the sour side (think its vinegar or something, not sure) and makes it very appetising. Also, its topped with shredded cheese (i like!).

We also shared a saute mushrooms ($4.80)...

found the mushrooms pretty normal.

Ah yee had the roasted lamb rack ($14.80)....

A closer up view....

The doneness as requested by ah yee...

below the lamb rack was rice. The rice was so yummy! It was made to be very flavourful with the sauce. I also tried abit of the lamb, it tasted really good too. Ah yee was satisfied. Portion was abit small though. When Xander came out to chat with us after the meal, he saw the slice of orange untouched and commented that ah yee could haf tried eating the orange with the lamb. Hmm.. interesting. Next time, next time.

we also had a basil crusted pork ribs ($10.80) to share....

A closer up view...

Xander was very nice to increase the portion for us knowing that we are sharing.

Xander said its the loin (i think, if i recall correctly)....

maybe coz its the loin, theres very little meat. Personally, we preferred meatier pork ribs. Taste wise, initially the taste didnt get to me. The taste of the cheese, greens and tomato on top didnt totally get into the ribs but by around the 3rd rib, the taste started getting to me. It was not very strong but not bad. Also, it was refreshing to have peach slices as a side.

We also shared a shrimp aglio olio ($8.80)....

a closer up view....

like the previous visit, the shrimps aglio was good!

The last dish to arrive was the baked pacific dory ($9.80)...

a closer up view of the fish.. its rolled up...

and seasoned rice as sides....

couldnt quite taste what was used to season the rice. It was not bad but taste was pretty mild. Much prefer the rice thats with the lamb. However, portion for this dish was very very small. One mouth can finish one ball of the fish already. Jiak buay ba. Uncle sq commented that when he saw the dish, he thot it was dessert! Ok la, meaning to say it was presented very nicely.... haha.. forwarded the feedback to Xander and he said they are still experimenting with the portions and servings.

Overall the meal was ok. The prices was signficantly adjusted but the main issue was probably on the portions. Xander promised a better experience the next time. heh..
