Jones The Grocer

Leonard arranged a gathering for statue, dear dear, ah mah and myself but in the end only dear dear and i could make it.

we went to jones the grocer (mandarin gallery) as leonard suggested...

the interior of the place...

as the name suggests, its whole decor was like a grocery store with areas where you can buy some groceries like cheese, chocolates, sauces etc...

we went for the dinner specials (on a separate menu).. we each had duo items on the menu we wanted to try so we decided to order all 3 items to share!

first was the tenderloin wrapped with parma ham, au juice, wild rocket salad, roasted potatoes ($31.50)...

the tenderloin portion was ok. it was tender yet not extremely tender. my personal preference is i dont really like cooked parma ham. it kinda behaves like bacon. the roasted potatoes were also pretty normal. while i'd say the dish overall was good, i wasnt impressed.

porcini mushroom with ricotta ravioli, unsalted butter, italian parsley, sauteed spinach, poached egg ($23.50)...

overall this dish was not too bad either. perhaps it was meant to be this way, the fillings were kind of dry. the pasta part of the ravioli was kind of unique coz most ravioli i tried are softer at the skin but this one seems a little baked. special in some sense. the poached egg was a little overdone in my view.

pan seared ocean trout with cream fruiche, grill asparagus, garlic mashed potato ($32.50)....

didnt realise the price until i looked through the picture of the menu at home. i think its damn overpriced! haha.. the garlic mashed potato was yummy! (but i think the one at Medz is much better).. the salmon was alright, skin was crispy, salmon not overdone. but would have been better (for me) if it was medium done.

and as i said, the mashed potato was yummy for me so we ordered an extra portion to share...

not on the menu but specially done. good for service. $4 worth of mashed potato.

some drinks we ordered.. they have quite a variety of drinks.

dear dear ordered granny smith and ginger soda...

it was syrup with sparkling water. their sparkling water bottle is soooo pretty! the granny smith and ginger taste was not too bad.

their bitter lemon is DAMN BITTER. i prefer my good old schweppes (not sure if i spelt it correctly)...

parker's guava and cranberry sparkling juice...

for dessert, the girl recommended us the red velvet cake...

it wasnt impressive at first taste but its flavour gets to you at second mouth. the taste of the cake.. i cant tell what it is inside and the cream is also not too thick. its yummy!

leonard loves their coffee...

overall, i think the food is quite pricey but i think i will be back. its overall pretty decent (i didnt say wow)... not much of a variety but im still thinking of that mushroom risotto sitting on my neighbour's table.. n that chocolatey drink. hence i think i'll be back!
