Lei Garden

Today we're going lunch at Lei Garden. Have long heard lotsa raves about their dim sum and recently, ah yee went with her boss to have lunch and she was raving about their roast pork. my aunt is very much the no roast pork, no chicken skin, no oily kinda person. for her to rave about the roast pork was quite a raise of eyebrows for us. So we got her to make reservations and we'll bring our mums down as well.

Lei Garden is located at Chijmes...

the interior....

Was pretty packed.

the menu....

theres no dim sum menu.. the servers would just come round with the dim sum in trays and u decide if you want it....

some of the dim sum we had.....

on the whole, all the items were pretty good. the custard bun was especially good in my view... especially the crust. the har gao and siew mai was good but not exceptional.

the peking duck.....

when ah yee called to make reservations, she was alerted to pre-order the peking duck and roast pork because it would usually run out by 11 am! woah... dat popular?

the peking duck was pretty good... crispy and thin. They usually would not cook the duck for u unless you request for it... at a fee of course. Mummy's suggestion is to bring it home and cook porridge (really yummy porridge).

and finally, the star for today....

i gotta say its quite good. and i'm not a roast pork person either. ah yee, jim poh and uncle sq were all giving their thumbs up. The thing about their roast pork is u can't really taste the fatty part but just find it smooth and the skin is so so crispy!

some other dishes....

the dishes were all quite ok but i didnt quite like the beef meat balls.

den they told us they had this set meal of porridge and noodles....

the porridge was like some crab or crayfish porridge. A lil bland wif the mild sweetness of the seafood.

the noodle was ok but none of us finished it coz its..... boring? and also coz we were pretty full.

The desserts....

my glutinous rice wif ice cream was ok but i didnt like the fact dat they used chocolate chip ice cream. plain vanilla would haf worked better for me. the glutinous rice portion was quite small.. oh.. costs a ridiculous $6.

ah yee, mum and uncle sq all had the mango with pomelo and sago... only around $4.50...

one thing to be noted about the service at Lei is, while some of the staff are ok, its quite annoying to realise dat some of the staff are really snobbish to patrons who are not regulars. I hate to say this but i felt that i very much experienced the chinese saying... " gou yan kan ren di "... there were so many 'dogs' around. That was quite a put off. And i'd choose to believe despite how good the roast pork is, there would definitely be other chinese restaurants who can serve roast pork of that level but offering services that can supercede the dogs.
