Tao Restaurant

We headed to Selegie for Tao Restaurant ...

it was amongst my many other suggestions that Andy chose Tao Restaurant to celebrate his dinner because he's treating! haha

everyone was first served the mango freeze drink and another warm floral green tea when we arrived...

the mango freeze drink was ok, i think the rest liked it. Its non refillable but the server gave us an extra round free (meaning if u go, maybe u can try asking.. haha).

the floral green tea is really fragrant! Its free flow.

and oh, we were given a room. i didnt know Tao Restaurant has a private room but it sure did worked for us (we were very noisy)... but it was slightly warm inside the room halfway through dinner and because of centralised aircon, there wasnt much the servers could do.

to know how Tao's menu works, u can refer to here.

first up is their bacon and mushroom gratin....

i vaguely remember i preferred it better. But the rest who were here for the first time seemed to like it. its bascially some cheesy thingy and they have pieces of bread to let u go with it.

next is the salad. the options available:
- curry yoghurt prawns salad
- farm boy splendor
- huai san
- fruit salad

we ordered every salad except the huai san. To know how the huai san is like, you can refer to here.

Dar, Jo-ann and Amanda had the fruit salad....

the nicest looking of all. I recall the layer of crab meat used to be thicker actually.

Andy zai, Yonghua and loh gong zai had the farmboy splendor....

the farmboy splendor is different from my previous visits. Previously they had ham and potato.. now its chicken. Both are pretty good.

Andy, Kendi and myself had the curry yoghurt prawns...

haha..we complained abt it being 3 small pieces of prawns.. the curry yoghurt sauce was some milky curry tasting sauce. Didnt really think much of this dish though it was decent. Its like u can just imagine the taste.

soup wise, there was:
- fish soup
- cream of mushroom
- cream of pumpkin
- shark-fin melon herbal soup

I remember Meina loves their fish soup. She likes it because its salty. Basically, all the soups were pretty good.

The fish soup is some saltish tasting clear soup.

The cream of mushroom was a thick mushroom cream based soup.

The sharkfins melon, i didnt try but it looks nice.

The cream of pumpkin soup received lots of raves. Tao's pumpkin soup is said to be the best pumpkin soup they've ever tasted. haha.. Raymond was full of praises for the pumpkin soup.. its thick and tasty.

the difference for the lunch and dinner at Tao Restaurant (aside from the price) is that for dinner, they have an additional Grilled Mushroom...

as good as always! Nicely grilled and slightly pepperish. Yummy!

a closer up view....

for mains, they had...
- Tao's oven roasted steak
- marinated lamb cutlet
- stew beef with rice (Japanese style)
- grilled snapper with Japanese sauce
- slow cooked pork back ribs
- baby lobster pasta in white wine sauce
- tao's grilled chicken
- baked flounder with cheese

the only item we didn't order was the grilled snapper with Japanese sauce.

Dar dar had the stew beef with rice....

this is not dar dar and my first visit so we already know its nice. The stew is flavoursome and really tasty!

Kendi, Andy and Kendi had the slow cooked pork back ribs...

this item was not available during my last visit. The server said this item is one of their award winning dish.. the pork rib did really come quite tender which is a good thing but i didnt find it dat exceptionally good. It was probably above average but not juicy enough in my view.

Jo-ann and myself went for the Tao's oven roasted steak...

over my previous few visits, their steaks keep changing in cuts and portions. While this cut its thick, its very small... barely enuff for me to cut and share...

i ordered medium rare, it came kinda medium...

but overall, the steak was nice.

loh gong zai ordered the lamb cutlet.....

he said its good.

yonghua ordered the Tao's grilled chicken...

its a piece of tender chicken leg. Taste was good, portion was good. But this loh gong zai is so naughty, he teased yonghua for ordering something so ordinary. haha

Amanda ordered the baked flounder with cheese...

looks so good when it arrived. they were all full of praises for it. The fish is tender and pretty juicy wif a nice layer of cheese on top.

Serene ordered the baby lobster pasta in white wine sauce...

tried the pasta, was pretty good! tasty and not gerlard.

for drinks, they have quite a range of floral tea together with coffee and orange juice:
- coffee
- orange juice
- ice (hot) fruit tea
- lavender tea
- ice tropical grapefruit tea
- ice grassjelly mint tea
- ice rose apple tea
- ice grape mallow tea

we only ordered the last 3 tea...

my all time favourite is the rose apple tea! Andy commented that the grape mallow tea tastes like Ribena. haha.. but overall, everyone liked the tea.

for desserts:
- creme brulee
- yangsheng poached pear
- black sesame pudding
- green tea or yam ice-cream
- home made chocolate mousse

i found the yam ice cream a little sour but yong hua said its ok. the green tea ice cream was ok.. the chocolate mousse was VERY NICE!!!! the creme brulee was not bad as well.

and we don't know how the servers know, they came into our room wif a dessert platter like thingy wif a candle on top for Andy....

happy birthday andy!

and they even presented him wif a gift which is the flask they used to contain the tea...
