Violet Oon

Dinner venue is Violet Oon and we chose the outlet at Bukit Timah...

And by the sheer entrance we are already confident of our dinner venue choice, how it will go so well with our dress up theme tonight!

The decor was very classy, vintage with all the peranakan tiles! The restaurant was not big but it was cosy and the service was good. One guy (can't rem his name) definitely has passion in the industry and service, going round amusing  patrons.

I loved everything about the decor, right down to the coasters!

And food arrived! The nice server even helped us place it aligned on the table for nicer pictures effect!

Gado gado...

Dry laksa...

The dry laksa is pretty good! Has the good old laksa fragrance with big prawns served like a pasta!

Sio bak and salted vegetables soup...

Found it a little too oily for my liking but Fiona really liked it.

Chup chye...

I love the chup chye! I love chup chye in general haha

Babi pong Tay....

The meat was good and the sauce too!

The buah keluak ayam....

The buah keluak especially! They gave a small spoon to dig out the inside of the nut, it's good!

The line of dishes...

But if u ask me, my absolute favourite item for tonight is the bubur chacha panna cotta....

This is oh so good!

The panna cotta is so good and the topping above is coconut-ish and mixed with gula melaka... it's Mmmmmm!

The pulot hitam with ice cream...

Which is also amazing!

And they served a complimentary sugee cake for birthday celebrations!

It was also, so good!

Hawker Chan

Ok this came recommended that the Michelin chicken rice is now at toa Payoh, replacing the old Soup Restaurant location (if u know where it is)....

It was relatively packed during lunch hour, you get a seat, queue for food and collect when your number is flashed.

Menu is simple, cut into rice, noodle, hor fan and some combinations. A little strict too in that they can't let u order any combination that's not on the menu. You just got to work it out.

I had the soya chicken roast pork noodle.

I...... cannot get what the craze or star is about. The skin of the roast pork was not crispy. A random kopitiam chicken rice stall might have a better roast pork.

The soya sauce chicken as well. Hmm there's another stall along the alley behind where bossini is, the food there is way much better, even right down to the noodles.

Me so disappointed.

The same thing but with rice. The chup on the rice is quite sweet. I guess it's ok but not nice nice?

Sides of char Siew and pork rib....

YAWNz. It's so lean. Taste was really just ok.

By virtue of this I think imperial treasure or crystal jade should be awarded Michelin stars too!

Wanton soup...

Tasted sweet. :(

Clearly I had a bad experience. I probably won't completely rule this off yet, probably I will try to give their main branch a visit. But yeah this experience was not good.

The Talad Drink

You probably would have seen on Facebook that the Talad drink which people Q and Q for at the Artbox is actually available without Q at Toa Payoh!

I will say it's quite reasonably priced and it tastes good for its value! The colours are gorgeous too!

Will be back for more!

Melt

So yes! U probably would have realized by now, it's my birthday month again! Filled with celebrations after celebrations!

Tonight it's with Leonard and Dear dear!

We sort of arrowed Leonard to decide on a place and he suggested Melt. Actually, the past few days I have been having soooooo much buffet! Eat till scared! There was steamboat buffet (chong qing), meat buffet (Brazil Churrasco) and jap buffet (momiji)!

But since we already said leonard will call the shots, we went ahead!

Melt, I will say is high in the list amongst the buffet restaurants in sg. I would say if you ask around, many would have tried and would have given good feedback about their buffet for its spread and value for money.

And as we got there, first thing to do was really to catch up! We were more excited to chit than the food until Cheryl came back with a plate of these....

WOW IS THAT LOBSTER?

EXCUSE ME OK!

Catch up was temporary paused and it was seafood galore!

The lobsters were of a decent size and their oysters were good too! The crab was relatively sweet as well!

Some buns n bread...

I didn't eat. Just thot I took a nice pic of it so show u all lo!

Eat buffet eat bread is a damn waste of money! Should be like Cheryl, she went for like 4 servings of the lobsters and crab! Haha

Some cold cut...

Roast beef...

Can't help but compare it with the one I recently had at Beach Road Kitchen. Beach Road kitchen one was much better in terms of taste and texture!

The Indian spread which was pretty good too. I couldn't help but find myself going for the papadum! Haha

The western savoury items...

And the Asian dishes...

Cheese! I love that they had Boursin, bleu cheese and Parmesan!

Salads..

Yes, got to head back to the lobsters!

And their buffet included juices! I went for the pink guava!

Thanks for the lovely company and loyal friendship! N for the lobster meal!

Gudaetama

The Gudetama Cafe is one of the places on my list of  'to-try'..:..

They have quite an array of cakes with the cute Gudetama design...

The interior of the place...

They serve complimentary hard boiled eggs on every table....

And they actually taste quite good!

This is their menu...

Which their menu was actually quite limited.

Our iced tea drink...

Which was just decent

The moooo fries....

It's actually sweet potato fries topped with some beef sauce and an egg...

The sweet potato fries are decent but the beef baked with cheese on top was so good!

As the menu was really limited, we both ended up with the steak...

The steak wasn't amazing. Can eat but not good good.

Couldn't help but order the cheese cake thou we were pretty full coz it looks so cute like a tamago sushi!

The yellow part is a sponge cake and the bottom is cheese cake with a digestive layer covered with some rice crisp like thingy...

The soya is replaced by maple syrup and the wasabi is a matcha paste. Overall it's ok but it's definitely cute!
