2 am Dessert Bar

Ron came to pick me up and we headed to the 2 am dessert bar @ holland v as recommended by terence...

quite a classy dessert place i'd say...

the desserts....

i was quite disappointed by both the desserts. not only was it not wowing, it was not nice to me (maybe taste is subjective and i haf bad taste). the person tried to explain how the strawberry milk thing has strawberry and milk in different texture but i really didnt know how to appreciate it.

and its frigging expensive.

ron didnt like it too.

Tetsu

gotta thank Tetsu for inviting me down for a complimentary food tasting session. Lisa and Wilson came along with me.

Tetsu is located at Tanglin Mall....

we first met up with Rachael, their PR lady where she gave us a brief introduction and also gave her recommendations on the menu.

this food tasting session was a bit different from the previous one i had whereby the menu was pre-determined. For this session, it was really like a normal meal session where we got to order what we felt like trying.

the first item i specially requested for, was the kani tofu with century egg! I love the one from shunjuu and i hope this one is good....

THUMBS UP! it proved to be really good! its a pity they always serve this dish in such small portions. i can easily down 2 - 3 of these on my own! hehe

we also got to try the processed puffer fish upon wilson's request...

it tastes like bak kua. i think i've tried this previously at other japanese restaurants, this item didnt leave much of an impression.

i requested for the steamed tofu. i've always seen this around at those more atas japanese restaurants and i have always always wondered how special do these tofu taste? is it really so darn smooth or wat... coz its always so expensive, i've always refrained myself but today, i got to try it!

it really is very smooth and served chilled. with the soya sauce its really good!! gives a very healthy feeling when you down it. haha

den theres the sashimi platter...

it was a generous portion with a good variety. we requested for their uni and also my fav cuttlefish, sword fish and all..

they even added a seasonal fish for us...

it was all nice and fresh.

another one of my request is this fried shrimp thingy!

oh god i love this! when i saw it i knew i had to try it! reminded me of the manhatten fish market's one (which they had removed from their menu.. got me sooo disappointed). it turned out to be just as good! its crispy shrimps, saltish and so nice and easy to eat!! YUMMY!!

also tried some of their sushi....

the way they did their tamago sushi was relatively unique and different from usual. the beancurd skin one was ok.. the eel one was specially recommended by Rachael. its quite different from the usual eel we haf. apparently its different water eel (if i recall correctly). its quite nice.. juicier den the usual.

next up is the pork katsu, one of their speciality!

im usually skeptical abt pork katsu. lotsa places have raves but when i tried its just so so. i like their pork katsu. its really quite tender. Lisa had issues abt their fatty portions. I, on the contary liked the fatty parts as well. i feel dat they should always haf a fatty portion. the area ard the fats are usually more tender!

their sauce...

one of their special katsu is this chicken with ham, asparagus and cheese...

there was mixed reviews abt the cheese. generally wilson, lisa and myself found the cheese to be too light. i guess we haf very strong palate when it comes to cheese but the manager did explain they had changed the cheese to suit the wider general public's palate which i can totally understand coz i do 9 out of my 10 friends cannot stand strong cheese like myself. haha

we were also given sake...

its sooo smooth! its really good!

the beef was quite disappointing though...

it tasted like duck. the sauce was a bit too sweet for our liking.

the miso cod fish....

this was really good. the miso sauce did not overpower the fish. it complimented it. the fish was fresh, soft and yummy.

Rachael also recommended the soba...

it was rather Q and not bad. i am tempted to try the thinner version the next time though.

den theres the tempura...

their tempura was ok...

i liked dat it was rather crunchy prawns and it was big portions and not too thick batter. but it didnt wow me.

and finally, desserts time!

we had a green tea ice cream and a pomelo sherbet....

the green tea ice cream was ok but the pomelo sherbet was really nice!!! its the same one from Ikoi! its got real pomelo skin shavings within. its really addictive and gets u wanting more!

overall a very delightful dinner and i really want to thank Rachael and Tetsu for the generous invitation. I'll definitely want to be back!

my fav items are the kani tofu century egg, the fried shrimps and the pomelo sherbet!

Canele

we decided to adjourn over to canele for desserts!

we shared a strawberry eclair...

and a strawberry shortcake.

their strawberry shortcake still remains as the best i've ever had. the eclair was a little hard, not quite what i like.

Coffee Club

dinner with joey n ishan at coffee club.

joey had a smoked salmon pasta...

i had a beef stew...

mmmm.. their beef stew is not bad. i mean for that price, i'd come back often. it may not be as good as brassierie or desire's but its good enuff. haha

shan had some chilli crab wrap..

she said it was good. i didnt quite like how saltish it was.

Desire

today is the appreciation dinner i had planned for the lions babes. Was given a budget and im glad i managed to plan a really nice dinner for them at Scarlet Hotel's Desire!

the management of the hotel had been extremely patient and kind in helping with the arrangements. Kudos to them!

they even set a side a private corner for us! Everything came looking posh, glam and desirable!

we were first served the bread.. warm bread with very very good butter...

i mean while i koe its just butter but their butter was really soft, smooth and saltish. everyone (including myself who's not a bread person as u know it) found their bread n butter to be really good.

for starters, there was the prawn cocktail with mango sauce...

i didnt go for it but i tried a bit of it. it was good. ingredients were fresh and quality was there.

i went for the parma ham and cheese salad...

yum yum! i lurvvve parmas! n the sauce was so good!

for mains, some had the cereal crusted cod fish!

think cereal prawns. everyone raved about the code fish. it was a very unique and delightful way to do up the cod.

i was the only one who had the veal cheeks ...

it was MOUTHWATERING GOOD! the veal cheeks were really really tender and soft. most importantly, the sauce was red wine sauce and it went very very well with the meat. the pasta was not overly soft but more textured and with the sauce it was heavenly. i LOVE THIS!

then there was also the chicken and spinach roulade...

another Mmm MMM!! it was tender chicken thigh meat.. most of them were giving thumbs up for this especially since some of them havent tried roulade before. SO YUMS!

for desserts, there was the green tea panna cotta...

another well liked item! pretty special!

and the sherbet...

a little too sour for our liking.

but overall it was a truly pleasant meal! glad that everyone enjoyed themselves!

The Mussel Guys Cafe

Kaizhi and i were deciding on where to go and eventually landed at The Mussel Guys Cafe located the Orchard Central...

they were having some kind of one for one for the mussels. we had it done in two different styles...

coz im way post blogging this, i cannot really remember what styles we chose. What i can remember is they were mediocre. Not superb but not lousy. i think oosters serve much better ones.

we also shared a squid ink pasta with spicy prawns sauce...

don't quite like their spicy sauce.

prices were quite reasonable and service was ok as well.
