Had dinner with Cynthia at Lawry's for her birthday celebration....
the complimentary bread .....
which i didnt have.
and the signature spinning bowl salad.....
which... has never once impressed me in terms of taste. haha...
but point to note is the vegetables look fresher now, no more brown sides and service was much better. Staffs were polite, friendly and smiley. That was a good change.
den the wagon came!
the wagon with all the meat inside!
the chef preparing our orders....
the yorkshire pudding....
it went very well with the au jus that came with the steak. Cynthia didnt seem to like it as much as i did though. heh
and this is Cynthia's english cut... 3 pretty thin pieces....
another view... and she ordered the creamed spinach as a top up...
the creamed spinach was alright.. it was in a mash... pretty ok... i usually like creamed spinach but i didnt find it impressive.
and den my thick lawrys cut....
another view....
and doing a comparison of the different cuts....
the prime rib was oh-so-good as usual! It was done medium rare and the steak was oh-so-tender!!
we also ordered a baked potato to share.. we were given options to mix it with butter, chopped spring onions, bacon and sour cream and they'll mix it at the side for us.
i opted for just the butter and spring onions....
cynthia's one with everything in.....
cynthia really liked the baked potato and i'd say it was really good as well.
for desserts, our set meal came with an option of blueberry cheesecake and chrysanthemum creme brulee.
Cynthia being a cheesecake lover, went for the blueberry cheesecake....
another view of it....
and my creme brulee.....
the blueberry cheesecake was alright in my view. Cynthia seemed to like it so i guess its good?
as for my chrysanthemum creme brulee, it really had the gek huay taste! It was rather special in a way, never actually had chrysanthemum creme brulee before. But comparing it to the original creme brulee i tried during my first visit with Lionel, this one fades in comparsion coz that very first one i had was so robust in taste. it certainly was the best creme brulee i've ever tried so far.
The meal came up to $229... with $100 off, thanks to ABN Amro's masterpiece dining voucher~

and i kinda overordered. haha.. had the yummilicious lotus rice which i was craving for the past few days....
it didnt disappoint. the chicken was still as tender, the rice was still as fragrant wif the haybe taste!
and i ordered the har kok.... deep fried prawn erm.. is it fritters or wanton? haha...
its really good! filled wif succulent prawns!
so is the har gao....
its good enough for me to like it. of coz im not expecting u to compare it to the big hotel standards.

Le Viet
Met Charis for dinner at Siglap. She chose the Vietnamist place called Le Viet. Dats when i realised her mum is half vietnamist.. ie. shes got vietnamist blood in her.. no wonder shes so pretty!
Le Viet ...
drinks wise, Charis recommended their sour plum juice....
... which i didn't order. I went for a soft drink. But after trying hers, not only did i order another the same drink, i ordered one to go after dinner. Its refreshing and not too sweet!
we shared one of their vietnamist rolls.....
if u noticed he beansprouts standing, its actually because i had previously requested for one of he rolls to be done w/o the very strong tasting basil leaves (i think its basil leaves)... so to indicate it to us, the very cute server used a tao gay! haha... den later she came over to tell us.. " i tell u something u dun be angry.. i just found out from the kitchen that all 3 dun haf the leaf " haha.. well, we were not angry coz she was really cute and funny and i didnt like that leaf's taste to begin with. Charis was fine with it as well.
next was the prawns wif sugar cane....
Charis was excited about this dish as well. I felt that the prawn paste was just ok but the sugar cane was really good. haha.. the ends were slightly charred and tasted really good!
the sides given for our noodles....
my 3-in-1 noodles!
comes with beef slices, beef balls and tendon. The tendon was kinda chewy, i like it! the beef slice and balls were just ok.. nothing fantastic. overall the whole bowl was pretty alright.. but i seem to remember that madam saigon's one was much nicer.
Service staff of the place left a very good impression.

Peng Lai Ge
Lunch was at Peng Lai Ge to celebrate Xinyan's last day..
456 Joo Chiat Road
Tel: 64781787
Opening hours: 10.30 am to 10.30 pm
we ordered a few sides to share...
the smelly beancurd....
chou chou chou! haha
actually, the smelly beancurds are not that smelly. good for people who just wana try for the novelty but worry about it being too smelly. haha
and the crispy chicken i like!
tender chicken parts nicely fried!
for mains, i ordered my usual lu rou fan...
the sauce is great, comes wif preserved vegetables and stewed egg. Wayne and Sharon also ordered this. Wayne agreed that its good as well.
Shyanne ordered the pork leg rice under the owner's recommendation...
i tried a bit, didn't find it fantastic. the pork leg smell was a little strong so didnt go well on me.
Jery had the kong rou fan....
which was sinful but he seemed to totally enjoy it. was so good he was considering a second bowl. haha.. and i was saying i actually like the meat portion but not the skin or oil. the rest were like shooing me coz thats the main point of eating kong ba. haha
xinyan ordered the pork chop rice....
recall uncle sq ordered it the last time we were here. cant really remember how it tastes but xinyan had no complains so i guess its fine? haha

Wan Tou Shek
Joseph and i went for supper at Wan Tou Shek!
I had my usual chrysanthemum and Joseph had barley....
and we ordered ALOT of food.. and everything was great! (yes Dennis and Xinyan, we HAFTA go together again!)
Joseph had the century egg porridge and i tried abit of it, was smooth ... would be nicer if there was more ingredients. not that it was miserable, just nicer if theres more. haha
the deep fried fish maw was also good. But it has to be eaten hot because it wun be crispy. Joseph agreed this is nice as well.
the deep fried wanton was also great.. joseph corrected me... he said this is not wanton.. its har kok.. means prawn something? haha ... its just very good. the prawns are much fresher den the last time as well.
the pork ribs are also pretty good as well.
some of the other items....
the har gao was nice..
the xiao long bao's skin was too thick and there was no chap.. haha.. but overall, edible.
the chicken feet was also not bad..
the crab meat or was it sharks fins dumpling was also pretty good... thanks to Joseph's recommendation.
and there.. the special highlights for the meal tonight!!
i'm usually not a lor mai gai kinda person so thats usually something i wun order.... so.... thanks to Joseph again, oh.. and he corrected me, he said that's not lor mai gai... he said dats he ye fan ie. lotus rice. Its so darn GOOD! the rice texture was just nice and it had the mild haybe taste.. ... the chicken was thigh meat (the part which i like) and there was also mushroom.. SIMPLY GREAT! Im so coming back for this!
the siew mai was pretty good as well but the reason why i said its a highlight is because Joseph gave me some tips about siew mai. He's actually from Hong Kong and his uncle actually taught him that u gotta let siew mai cool off a bit first so that the sides of the skin will harden a little (just a little, dun let it turn cold and turn too hard) and thats when its the best texture and temperature to savour it. haha.. it sounded like it did made sense! haha... and i was mildly impressed. haha
a sumptuous and filling supper. *bLurP*... Joseph treated.. thank cute~

Katong Shopping Centre's Black Sesame Paste
Joseph, being the typical mr nice guy, was so thoughtful! He was driving today and he actually recalled that xinyan will be stuck in the office so he offered to buy lunch in for her and he specially made a detour to katong shopping centre to buy the lunch. He also got us a black sesame paste to share.....
i only got to try it much later at night (coz initially was coz i was busy, den it was coz i was very full). The black sesame paste was pretty good. It was really smooth. Thank cute Joseph!

Kdinner
After work, i went to meet up wif Jo at Marine Parade. We went to Kbox for the Kdinner!
Some pictures of the food...
scallops and braised fish...
both were not very tasty.. i kinda think the cineleisure kbox's buffet is more value for money.
the sharks fins soup which we shared....
it was not too bad... of coz, u wun expect real sharks fins inside! haha
and the green curry and chawanmushi...
and a messed up plate of sashimi and crab meat salad (I LIKE!) and salmon...
the deep fried stuff which Jo loves..
it was pretty much a waste of money actually coz we were mainly chatting in the room, not really eating and singing, lotsa catching up to do and we werent very full so we didnt eat to our fill. haha..

New Zealand Natural
was actually quite full but not sure why, had the craving for something sweet and saw New Zealand Natural around....
my cup! $4.50 for 2 scoops!
the macademia supreme is so good! its got a very strong butter taste and its really smooth. Xinyan liked it as well!

Ajisen Ramen
Lunch today was at Ajisen with Xinyan, Joseph and Dennis.
the white fish side dish...
portion was pretty good. its real fish meat inside. not too bad.
the gyoza ...
found it pretty decent.
soft shell crab...
didnt try it so can't comment. but these days, it seems pretty hard to find a nice version of this.
and of coz, the ruan ku!
like it so much! its so tender! Joseph and Dennis were telling me its actually quite healthy... which is good! haha...
for the ramen, we all chose those wif the logo! haha
Dennis had the volcano ramen....
i think he said it was not bad... eh.. am i right, Dennis? haha... this is something i definitely would not order coz i dun really take spicy food. tried abit of the soup and its definitely not for me.
Joseph and myself went for the ton toro ramen!
this is what i've been ordering every time i visit Ajisen these days. haha.. i specially requested for the pork not to be overcooked but sadly, they didnt seem to get my request clear so it was a lil overcooked. But overall, it was still pretty fine.
Xinyan had the paiku ramen......
i believe she liked the dish as well. Soup base was pretty similar to our ton toro i believe. tried a piece of the paiku.. was not bad but i personally prefer ton toro.. its easier to eat in my view. haha
