Barracks

Dinner with Jeremy, leonard and his gf janice for dinner.

We, or rather i, arranged for tonight's dinner to be at Barracks. A reader of my food blog left a tag previously recommending Barracks (but i cannot remember what about it he/she said was nice except that it probably includes massage while dining ...... wow!)... err.. but it didnt happen for our meal.. as in, no massages leh.

we did take awhile to locate Barracks which is at dempsey house...

the outdoor seats.....

somehow, when at dempsey, its probably hard to find a place w/o good ambiance these days

the indoor seats..

the menu....

the napkins....

the 2 ladies ordered a foie gras consumme each to share wif the guys...

but only one ravioli so the ladies got to eat it! hehe

i like the ravioli. Its quite special.. especially the combination of the foie gras with the wanton like skin. the soup wise, it tasted more like some pepperish soup. While the soup was not bad, both Janice and i agreed that its not something we'll order again because its way too expensive. Its $13 for the soup and its not fabulous enuff to make us wana order it again.

for mains, initially both girls wanted the pork chop while both guys wanted the perfumed chicken. But after a brief discussion cum negotiation, the mains were ordered as follows:

Janice had the Jamaican Jerk Pork Tenders ($22)...

overall it was not bad in terms of taste. But i would have liked it better if the pork was more tender.

Leonard's perfumed chicken was not available so he ordered the entree of the day instead which was some marinated boneless chicken going at $26...

portion was pretty ok but going at $26 seems a lil steep. Taste wise was alright.

Jeremy had the fish and chips....

the fish was quite good. Crispy on the outside and good portion of the fish.

as for myself, i had the cheeky veal provencade ($28)...

a closer up view of the meat...

and the potatoes....

and i personally feel dat my mains was the nicest of the four. haha.. in my view that is! the veal cheeks is soft and tender. Yummilious! the sauce went very well wif it! the portion could have been bigger for the price though. den the potato, it has some cheese in it which tastes a bit like blue cheese. It was also a delight to find a tableful of blue cheese lovers! yay! But the downside is, typically, i'll be the only only there to savour the blue cheese (no competition).. wif a tableful of blue cheese lovers, i've got competition! haha...

overall, this dish is good enuff to make me wana come back n have cravings for it

we had wanted to order starters but after browsing through the desserts menu, we all decided that the desserts were more appetising.

in the end, we each chose a dessert each. What we didnt koe was that they were all cakes....

leonard ordered the carrot cake...

tastes ok. rather ordinary. but its only when i got home and checked their online menu that i realised the carrot cake is a freaking $8. Bo hua bo hua! will not order this again!!

jeremy had a chocolate almond cake.....

it is really really good. Jeremy even specifically wanted me to try the crust. and hehe... actually i chose his cake for him. =p i haf a tendency of 'making' certain friends order what i wana try... the typical few includes Deanie and Andy =PppppP and they are all very nice about it. keke.. now its jeremy

but likewise for the carrot cake, this is even more ridiculously priced! $12!!! got more expensive one anot?

Janice had the Lavender cake....

the frosting was very very sweet! a little too sweet for my liking. Also at a high $7!!

as for myself, i had the peanut butter $11.....

also really quite nice... but for $11, its way too expensive!

But it was really a fun and enjoyable session. We even took pics with our own cakes...

there were people who came round to inform us that the gallery at the back was having a exhibition of drawings by a 21 yrs old undiscovered artist so i got the rest of them to go check it out....

interesting artwork there and an interesting concept for the restaurant.

When jeremy came back from the toilet, he told me that they differentiated the ladies and gents not by labels or pictures of male or females. They used animals and he told me the female one was that of a pussy cat. He wanted me to guess what animal represented the male.

Can u guess? haha...

and check out the seats inside the toilet!
