Ember

dinner with izzy over at Ember.

complimentary bread..

we went for the set dinner at about $89++ each. The set lunch is way more wu hua!

for my first course, i went for the scallop wrapped around parma ham...

it was nice! something that cynthia will like!

Izzy had the escargots....

which was pretty good as well.

for our 2nd course, the foie gras was the obvious choice since it was the foie gras that i raved about to izzy previously....

the foie gras for the set dinner is not as big a piece as the one at lunch (but its not small either). the way it is prepared is also different. it comes with truffle oil, egg, abalone mushroom. YUMMY!! really good! But in comparison, i think i will prefer the one i usually get for lunch coz its bigger in portion and not as oily (although i do love truffle oil).

it also comes with a piece of parma ham chip...

i don't know how they do it! haha

as for mains, izzy had their pork belly which is one of their signatures...

very good! the skin part is made very thick and crispy. the meat is super tender...

and myself, sea bass was the obvious choice! its the same sea bass i had for their set lunch...

its very good! izzy agreed that its really good. the seabass is nicely crisp on the outside and its just really tasty!

some complimentary sorbert to cleanse the palete...

coffee or tea comes with the set dinner..

for dessert, without a doubt i must have my coconut panna cotta!!!

this is crazy awesome! the chef is a genius!

izzy had the warm chocolate cake which was pretty good too!

Juchheim

izzy surprised me with this Juchheim box of biscuits...

knowing about my recent love for Yoku Moku cigare biscuit, he went on to check with his japanese friend who told him that this brand has a similiar biscuit....

although in terms of texture and flavour, this brand's biscuits are not as fine as Yoku Moku, it is true its similiar. Also, its true that it is possibily the closest we can find as substitute here in Singapore.

Baikohken

met up with izzy after work for dinner. he suggested going to ngee ann city and we ended up at baikohken.

introduced to him the char siew don...

as good as before!

we also had a cold ramen...

their cold ramen is really very Q! didnt like the big piece of charsiew though. the char siew is a bit hard.

La Petite Patisserie

when we decided on this birthday celebration, i thought its a great opportunity to order that rainbow cake i've been dying to try. and since no one has ever been kind enough to surprise me with a WOW customised cake, i end up being the one to order them to WOW people while i get to savour them too (muahahaha).

so i researched online to look for rainbow cake makers. there is one particularly popular one.. but seems so popular that doesnt seem to have slots and doesnt do delivery and i read some not so positive reviews so i googled further and found this:

http://www.facebook.com/lapetitehomebakery

their website is over here:

http://notrehistoirearcen.blogspot.sg/

and the contact person is also called June. Her number is 90114485.

She is one very warm lady. Ordering from her was a breeze. She made everything very easy and comfortable.

as we opened the box, all the girls wowed at the colourful sprinklers and everyone was excited to be able to dig into the cake later....

while waiting, everyone helped to place the candles on the cake.... we decided to put XX small candles instead of using the big ones...

ta da~

everyone began excitedly taking pics of the photos but reminding each other NOT to check in or tag on fb yet! hahaha....

and when joanne said she was here, ah mah pig went to bring her in...

so pretty!!

they took awhile and we were all excited (and worried) because the little candles were melting melting!! we even joked about having to tell joanne " there used to be candles there " hahahhaa

time to cut the cake!

oooo and check out the rainbow layers!!!!

excited everyone!!

and you know how usually everyone will siam the cake, not this one! everyone wanted a piece of it! The cake is awesome! the bottom part is a layer of crispy chocolate, some nuts. YUMMY! the outer white layer is a layer of pudding like thingy. not too sweet, also very yummy. the colourful layers were a little like butter cake. overall it was really good! we loved it!

Medzs

Joanne's surprise birthday celebration over at Medzs.

ah mah and daphne said they were hungry so they ordered some roast pork skewers ....

they said it used to be very good but  not as good now. i didnt find it very good. skin not crispy enough, meat not bouncy enough...

and as we were seated around, the servers came over and asked whether we could take pictures with them for their turkish promotion...

and although after the cake, most of us were kind of full, i urged everyone to order or Medzs will not let me hold surprise birthday parties here anymore!  hahaha.. truth is, Medzs has been very kind. Not just this time round, the previous round for Lydia's birthday surprise as well. They are very accomodating, very friendly and helpful servers and they even sang along with us to help make the celebrations even more special. thank you Medzs!

i ordered the usual good old garlic mashed potato that i like....

and ah mah pig say i seem to like mashed potatoes. yes i do!

and of coz, how to miss their good salt crust roasted beef...

the girls agreed that this is good steak! the tasty salted crust... oooo...

and theres the meat platter that lyndi ordered...

the sausage was good! didnt really try the rest.

rosti with parma ham!

yums. i like rosti!

joanne's salmon skewers which i didnt try but the rest said its good...

roast pork paella i think...

turkish chicken and cheese that took very long to arrive...

and after dinner, we were ready for round 2!

Yung Kee

many of you would know by now that i have been asking for people who go Hong Kong to get me the Yung Kee century egg. i have been craving for it!

and dar dar got me some from hong kong but we've not been able to arrange to meet up. today when i woke up, i got a text from dar dar saying she has delivered my fav eggs over and...

waking up to such a sweet surprise is sheer joy! thank cute dar dar!!

and yes! they are still watery!!

Yoku Moku

thank you cute minako for the lifeline!! these are AMAZING!!!!

i would say, these are heavenly!! they are soooooo good!

i love these!

Brussel Sprouts

went bridal shopping (kind of) with loh gong zai and minako today. I think i helped him save another few hundred so he gave me a treat!

by the time we were done was around 9 plus and loh gong zai suggested going to east coast park for belgium food. turns out, it was brussel sprouts.

the fries come along with the mussels he ordered...

the fries are SOOOOO GOOD! not a fries person but omg.. the thick fries are just soooo addictive. very very yummy!

im not sure what cooking style he chose for the mussels but its very good...

the sauce was yummy! mussels were decent although if they were a little bigger, i think will be nicer.

Minako ordered a steak tartare...

i think as of now, i've not found a steak tartare that i've found to be really super good.

for myself, i ordered a baked crab meat...

i like the good amount of crab meat but overall found the dish too dry. even the supposedly buttered mashed potatoes on top is just too dry.

loh gong zai had a roast pork belly which is awesome!

generous amount of meat, nicely grilled. the pork is tender with a good amount of fats. YUMMY!

Wendy's

recommended the Wendy's Dave Hot & Juicy burger to them...

this burger is simply awesome. i love their patty! its juicy and i love the beefy taste! i think they use a different patty for their different burger coz i had at one point thought the cheap one piece patty cheese burger thingy uses the same patty so i thought if i ordered 2 it would be the same thing yet cheaper (cheapo mentality). i was so wrong.

sharon and saphy liked the recommendation! in fact, saphy said next time they crave for burgers, they will come back to wendy's.

i also recommended this to sonia some weeks back and she's been craving for it since!

another reason why i like wendy's is because they serve baked potatoes instead of just fries...

saphy ordered their chilli beef thingy...
