Coffee Bean

I ordered a ceasar salad with smoked salmon from coffee bean to go ($9)...

Actually i was craving for Xander (Basil Alcove)'s ceasar salad! But i remember coffee bean's ceasar salad has also been pretty good. And yes, it did satisfy my craving for ceasar salad. The sauce was just right and theres the shredded cheese. Yummy.

Also packed their hazelnut praline cheesecake back...

the taste was alright but not something i'd wana try again. not that its not nice. Its really ok. u may like it. It feels like its some creamy cheese cake with very thin layer of cake in the middle.

also bought a chicargo cheese cake...

the chicargo cheese cake was really yummy! Thumbs up!

Long John Silver

we also bought items from long john silver. I bought the clam chowder soup ($2.80)...

i really like long john's clam chowder. I think its pretty value for its price. Taste wise, probably many restaurants don't even match up (some are too dilute). Plus, its got chunks of potato and clam. I like!

Joanne had a potato and chicken salad....

i generally dun like long john's chicken coz its breast meat. Tried the potato and found it alright. Pretty value for money coz its only $3

Delifrance

Dinner was at Delifrance....

I had a seafood croissant topped with smoked salmon (forgot to take a pic of it) but heh.. ping jie jie upon seeing my croissant, she went to get the same item except she had a baguette!

Settlers Cafe

Went over to Settlers Cafe with ah yee, uncle sq and ping jie jie.

We took the standard package ($30), comes with a drink each...

The only drink worth mentioning is the strawberry comfort tea. It looks pretty gross before u stir it. Ping jie jie said it looks like some menses tea (u get the idea). but she said taste was alright.

And a snack (which we had settler's strips)...

As mentioned before, their settlers strips is cuttlefish but they microwave it till its so crispy and yummy!

ping jie jie ordered a side of fried chicken wings...

their chicken wings are pretty good actually.

Our package includes 2 hours of free gaming but because we started around 11.50 pm and they close at 1.30 am, we didnt manage to enjoy the whole 2 hours but it was pretty alright.

Broth

Ah yee and uncle sq came to pick me up and its off to Broth we went... (Broth is located at Duxton Hill)

The interior...

Their menu...

we took seats outside though....

The outdoor seats...

Lil bee is working as a server there!

And wilson!

another pic of wilson...

Lil bee actually got us champagne when i told him it was uncle sq and ah yee's wedding anniversary....

just like my birthday, he said... " champagne is for celebration "

after some drinks... my face was red.. i requested for soft drinks and lil bee got me this peach soda...

Tastes abit different from the usual peach soda i've had. This one is abit like lipton's iced peach tea made frizzy. haha..

And first to be served was the bread and butter....

so far, i'd say all my friends whom i've brought over, love their bread and butter. Jo-ann and dar loved it, ah mah pig (joanna), miss piggy (Lyndi) and mummy gorzilla (Elica) loved it, Jeffrey loved it and now, Uncle sq and ah yee were also saying its really nice. The bread is really soft, the butter is really good. Tastes abit milky...somewhat different from the normal butter we have.

First up was the appetizers...

Rockpool prawn cocktail with wild lime jelly, cognac sauce and young salad sprouts ($18.90)

a close up view...

the prawns are fresh, big and succulent.

and check out the wild lime jelly...

the wild lime jelly is really special and refreshing. Mildly sweet goes very well with the prawns.. gives this item a very special touch.

And the sauce...

it may look like the usual thousand island sauce but its not. The menu says its cognac sauce. It goes very well with the prawns.

next is the white pepper snails baked with spinach, garlic, lemon zest, parsley and shimeiji mushrooms ($17.90)...

exactly like the name suggests, its everything in.. tastes pretty garlic-y and yummy. Escargots are soft and and flavoursome.

Goose liver pan fried with truffled spanish onions, sage leaves and toasted almonds ($19.90)..

Uncle sq and ah yee who have only tried foie gras once in some chinese restaurant (and apparently it didnt taste very good) were wow-ing over this. They both agreed its really yummy. heh..

I recommended them to try the baby spinach and portobello mushroom salad, sun dried tomatoes and raspberry vinaigrette ($17.90)...

This dish is one that got onto me. Honestly at first try (couple yrs back), i didnt find it that great but gradually, i'm beginning to like this dish more and more. The whole dish is very refreshing. Its somewhat cold and the spinach and mushrooms are so fresh. Gives a very healthy feeling when u eat it.

ah yee made a very funny comment about the fried onion on top...

haha.. she said.. " even their fried onion also nicer " basically, ah yee and uncle sq are totally won over after the fabulous appetizers and wonderful service.

next comes our mains.. was very disappointed when lil bee informed that they've changed their menu and they no longer serve that yummylicious pork chop and steak with hollandise sauce =( But lil bee promised me that the venison tender loin is pretty good as well. So i ordered that.

Uncle sq had the Roast NZ monk fish fillet on cabernet braised potatoes with citrus endives and olive oil ($30.90)...

a closer up view....

the braised potato is in purple! heh.. the sauce is the creamy type and its so good! The fish was soft and fresh as well. Uncle sq whos more inclined towards oriental food agreed that its really good as well.

And my venison tender loin pan roasted with junipers and thyme, roast beetroot and parsnip chips ($34.90)...

the doneness of the beef...

JUST RIGHT! Its so good. So tender! Portion was good as well. I'm salivating as im recalling it. Recently tasted a number of steak which temperature was not hot enuff but this one is totally right. Love it!

Ah yee, being the lamb lover had the lamb loin in green coat with fine green beans, sauteed garlic potatoes and mint jus ($34.90)....

A closer up view...

Ah yee had wanted to request for it to be well done but lil bee suggested that she consider taking a medium well. As soon as the lamb arrived, ah yee couldnt help but comment " my lamb smells so good " while i was taking the pictures imposing pressure on me to quickly finish taking the pics so she can tuck in. haha...

Ah yee loved the lamb.. she finished it all up! And Broth, till now, is the only place where i'll dare (and actually mildly like) their lamb. I'm the type who doesnt and cant take the mutton taste but i dun find that taste very strong in their lamb. In fact i kinda like the sauce they use for their lamb.. its tastes abit like wine and abit minty.. its just nice and the lamb is really tender. Ah yee being the lamb lover is the kind who loves the strong mutton taste (the sao taste) yet she still agrees that their lamb dish is so good.

As we finished our mains, i was telling lil bee.. " i wana order dessert " and lil bee went to get us the menu.

Ah yee's first reaction was to look at me and say... " i want that date one "

haha.. ah yee has read my rave about the sticky date pudding at Broth.

and check out what sweet lil bee has done...

he wrote the words in chocolate himself. heh..

Happy anniversary to ah yee and uncle sq!

the sticky date pudding ($12.90)...

its still as good. I know the toffee sticky date at marmalade pantry is really famous but i kinda prefer Broth's because it doesnt come with the coffee taste. I love the combination of sour cream with butterscotch. Ah yee and uncle sq were not disappointed by it either. They both agreed its really really good. Ah yee liked it best among the dessert we had.

We also shared a supernova pavlova ($12.90)...

a closer up view...

its has passion fruit, raspberry, strawberry, kiwi and banana. Although it looks creamy, its actually very light. Very yummy especially the sides...!

Virgin olive oil and sauternes cake with poaches glace peaches ($12.90)...

didnt quite like this item. I mean its not bad but nothing to wow about. its just a piece of cake. haha

and a good way to end such a delightful meal is a cuppa tea ($4.50)...

Overall, a fabulous meal and im glad uncle sq and ah yee enjoyed it so much that they even gave a $20 tip! heh

BROTH is situated at 21 DUXTON hill (T.pagar).....63233353

Menotti

We've already had it all planned. Desserts at Menotti! Take full advantage of their 50% off desserts after 10 pm!

Together, we walked over from Clarke Quay to Raffles City.....

They had around 7 different desserts left so we ordered 6 of it.

ok, introducing the desserts one by one....

the strudel ($5.50)....

Its apple pie with golden raisins, pine kernels and vanilla icecream. This was the least popular item for the night. All 5 of us were going for it for the smooth ice cream but not the strudel. In fact, we didnt quite finish it. It was hard and the apple was pretty sour.

Tiramisu ($5.90)...

Its mascarpone cheese cake with ladyfinger biscuits, coffee and cocoa. Pretty funny a shape, taste was alright but i think i've tasted better tiramisu.

Cannoli ($5.90)...

This is a tube shaped chocolate pastry stuffed with ricotta cheese, citrus fruits and pistachio nuts. Tried it before during my visit with Jeffrey previously. Kelvin and i agreed that it tastes like one of our childhood snack..

Collon...

haha.. but of coz.. this one is a much bigger version.

Cassata Siciliana ($5.90)...

Its smooth ricotta cheese, dark chocolate chips and citrus fruits enrobed in pistachio marzipan. Miss Piggy (Lyndi) ordered it when we were here previously. I personally dun like it coz i dun like almond taste but the rest were pretty ok with it.

Crostata ($5.90)..

This is fresh exotic fruits tartlets. Basically its rasphberry fruit tart. I found it very ordinary. In fact, i kinda prefer Delifrance's tarts. Ailian agrees with me but Kelvin found the fruit tart ok.

Duomo ($5.50)...

This is mascarpone and spicy cream with olive oil sugar dough. I left Duomo to the last because it is THE BEST! its SO SO GOOD! i love it! Also the most popular item of the lot! Funny how initially when we were ordering, this item didnt quite catch any of our eyes. heh.. but this is really good. The bottom is a biscuit like crust. The top is some cream custard like textured thingy which goes so so well with the biscuit crust. The whole cream custard layer is held in place by a certain jelly like membrane. There were also traces of the spice that was above as deco (i didnt manage to taste it but apparently the rest did). This Duomo is so so good in my view. heh..

The bill came up to $20.20! So cheap!
