New Ubin Seafood Restaurant

Dinner was at New Ubin Seafood Restaurant.

Block 27 Sin Ming Road, Sin Ming Industrial Estate Sector A #01-174, Singapore 575680
+65 6466 9558
www.ubinseafood.com

The team wanted seafood - Crabs in particular. We sourced around a few places and Jourdan suggested New Ubin Seafood which to be honest i have heard raves about this place. Not so much about the crabs but their beef! So we started contacting and it was arranged!

The lady who i was in touch with was very nice and friendly over watsapp introducing the menu and making recommendations.

It was located rather secluded in Sin Ming, the industrial area. Thank god we had 2 good drivers and GPS! haha

When we got there, for a weekday night it was really crowded. We were also a little worried that it had no air con. coz we remember checking if there was air con. Luckily the person changed us into the air con area.

The non-air con area probably due to the rain had quite a bit of insects flying around. the air con area is a lot more comfy!

we ordered most of their specialty items. first up was their foie gras egg ($9 a cup)....

it was soooo good! they forget to mention it has truffle too! the foie gras was lightly seared and salted. the soft boiled egg and truffle. OMG.. sinfully good!

next up was the salted egg squid ($20)....

which was good too. just that they had even better items on our menu today! lol

pork collar ($14)....

very very nice! very tender! some said it taste like bak kua. i didnt think so. i think its too tender to be bak kua. but after the first 3 dishes, everyone was even more hopeful about what was coming up!

the lady was very nice. she also offered us a oyster platter on the house!

oysters were so fresh and taste really good with the sea salt. i popped 2!

next up was also their signature pork knuckle ($26)...

it was also very nicely done. the skin was crispy and the meat was tender. we finished every bit of it!

prawn paste chicken ($20)...

prawn paste chicken was yummy too!

Hk Kai Lan done 2 ways ($18)...

the leafy part is very special, crispy!

and finally, 1000g of ribeye steak! ($120)....

YUMMEH!!!

i don't know how premium it is but it is really damn nicely done. tender and with the strong beefy taste. its so good everyone gave their thumbs up!

and the order of the beef comes with a complimentary fried rice cooked in the beef fats....

which was nice too!

we also ordered another carb - hokkein mee ($24)...

i loved it! it was so good coz its so wet yet so tasty! also great that they had the crispy lard on top! Ooooo!

for the crabs, we had a promo.. 3 for the price of 2 at ($74). and the best part is they will do it in 3 diff styles for u! so we had the garlic baked crab, black pepper crab and chilli crab...

as i was too full from the beef and all. i barely tried the crab. and also coz the crab was like the really small kind. i prefer humongous crabs. hahaha

overall the meal was very enjoyable. so much so that everyone said we will be back!

Nana Green Tea

for lunch, we headed to Nana Green tea and i had my favourite seafood udon!

served chilled in sesame sauce, the udon is springy. I don't usually like udon for its size of noodles but i love this. the seafood is also yummy with bouncy prawns.

Sadly this is not on the set lunch menu. their set lunch menu is generally quite wu hua. It consists of a main and a drink which usually on its own will already range from $6 to $8.50. The lunch is probably a $12ish.

and of course, its popular for their green tea...

Sonia actually had a red bean latte thingy that was also awesome which i didnt manage to take a picture of.

Por Kee

We are having Por Kee! Yes! Por Kee! You can almost say that is my favourite Cze Char!! They closed for awhile and i was so upset. But im soooooooooo happy they reopened.

I LOVE their champagne pork rib! coz its tua kee!! like a major huge pork chop!

tender (and fatty)... very yum!

and i also love their signature tofu!! the mild egg taste in the tofu is really good!!

their prawn in egg omelette is also good. It used to taste better but today it is just good. haha

and the frog leg in chicken essence!

chicken essence goes well with the frog leg. yummy!

and the sweet potato leaves with sambal sauce...

Flock Cafe

after work, Jourdan, Yang Ling and myself were around the vicinity of the hip Tiong Bahru! So we decided to be hip and drop by one of the many coffee joints that have been sprouting up around the area.

We wanted to head to Forty Hands but it was closed so we adjourned to Flock Cafe which was also closing soon but took us in for just coffee!

Flock has a very simple decor, a very small cafe.

apparently they are really popular for their banana cake...

Yang Ling gave us a treat! We had a banana cake, a carrot cake and some hot drinks for the rainy day...

both Yang Ling and Jourdan found the banana cake really good. I found it ok. haha

Mezza 9

we decided to head elsewhere for desserts and coffee. I have seen this online sometime ago but never had a chance to try it! its the potted plant ice cream from Mezza 9! from Hyatt Hotel...

yes!! that's right! this is not a plant! its ice cream! Salted caramel ice cream!!

the ice cream is really yummy. the top part is some cake like crumbs which goes well with the ice cream! Really pricey for this size though. its about $16 for a pot. But sucker for such gimmicks. haha

Arossa

After work was dinner with Phyllis to celebrate Christmas! I suggested Arossa as i can't get over how wonderful their pappardelle is and Phyllis agreed so it was Arossa we went!

Phyllis wanted the foie gras terrine....

which was nice. But not sure why they seem to like drizzling the balsamic vinegerette over everything. haha

Phyllis chose the truffle risotto... i was a little disappointed with the choice (haha!) coz i was keen to try other stuff! haha.. but the risotto was very good! very yummy!!

for myself, of coz i had to choose the pappardelle!!

it was still super good! very thinly sliced pasta such that it tingles in the mouth. in a very delightful sauce with beef cheeks. Yummeh!!

Baikohken

Lunch was at Baikohken located at takashimaya the cold storage level. I had the long time no eat char siew don!

it is still as good as ever! The char siew still tastes like tuna, not overly fat and goes very well with the japanese rice and mayo like sauce. And of course, the spring onion. a wonderful combi!

Nam Nam

catching up with Crabby over lunch at Nam Nam. With work in toll, its hard to catch up as often as we'd like to these days. But the last meet up (also at Nam Nam) has got crabby hooked onto Nam Nam too!

Its good! I particularly love the meatballs (both the pork and beef ones)...

their rice noodles are good but i prefer the instant noodles!

crabby was showing me her 'magic' nail polish which changes colour with temperature...

we both agreed the above looks more like she's poisoned! hahaa

Tunglok Xihe

Orchard Central
181 Orchard Road, #07-07/09
Singapore 238896
Tel: +65 6736 0006

for dinner, we went to Tunglok Xihe!

The yummy salted egg fried fish skin....

fish skin on its own is already very yummeh... with salted egg, this is crazy good!

Kurobuta pork chops....

the pork chop is very good. The sauce is not overly sweet and the pork is very very tender. Yum!

the crab with vermicelli...

a nice vermicelli but of course, not as good as the one in bangkok. But overall its good.

the lion head...

a very small portion. the rice below is very soft like porridge after you mash the meatball in. I kinda like it.

we also ordered the peking duck...

while it was nice, today's peking duck felt a bit stale.

5 the moments

5 The Moments
73 Tanjong Pagar Road Singapore 088494
https://www.facebook.com/5themoments
Opening Hours: 5pm – 11pm (Mon), 12pm – 11pm (Tues-Thurs), 12p – 1am (Fri-Sat), 12pm – 11pm (Sun)

After dinner, we had planned for ktv but birthday girl had zouk planned so we decided to head for desserts or ice cream around the area. as we were walking around the tanjong pagar stretch, there was this shop with loads of bright lights that caught our attention...

more importantly, we saw the ice cream chiller they had!

they had some nice flavours and friendly servers who let me try like almost every flavour before deciding what to opt for...

the place was nicely done up with a vintage kind of feel. apparently this place used to
be a bridal shop but was converted to a cafe....

ice cream! the ice cream was pretty yummy especially the pistachio flavour!

we also had a waffle.....

the waffle is pretty good too. it was nicely crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside.

was a little turned off when they wanted to charge 50 cents for extra maple syrup when we requested for it coz the waffle didn't look like it had maple syrup. apparently they had already pre-drizzled it on but looked missing amidst the pretty design.

but eventually the waffle still tasted nice and they soon made up for it with good service.
