Swiss Culture

Seafoodies' June gathering is held at Swiss Culture coz crabby misses fondue....

Having seen us here for a number of times, the server was extremely nice and friendly, and he was telling us all the promotion they have for different cards.

If i recall correctly,
Popular card - free chocolate fondue with every order of cheese fondue
NTUC Link card - free chocolate fondue with every order of cheese fondue
OCBC card - free chocolate fondue with every order of cheese fondue
HSBC card - free chocolate fondue with every order of cheese fondue
UOB card - free chocolate fondue with every order of cheese fondue, if its your birthday
Standard Chartered card - 1 for 1 chocolate fondue

i ordered the Chicken "Zurich-style"....

Its really good. I believe i had this during last year's national day dinner with the nuasters.. the sauce for the chicken and mushroom is fantastic. You can haf the option of rosti or buttered noodles, i'd highly recommend the rosti.

the girls also ordered a calamari....

didnt find the calamari very nice.. i mean its not not nice.. just not very nice. haha... texture was ok.. maybe cos i found it not saltish enuff in flavour.

and the cheese fondue which we're here for....

and as usual, we'll order the beef cubes and sausage....

even clammy who insisted on being on a diet couldnt help tuck in as well.

and since its my birthday month and we paid with UOB card, we got a free chocolate fondue!!

like i previously mentioned, im not a chocolate fondue person but Swiss Culture's chocolate fondue is by far the BEST tasting chocolate fondue i've had. their only set back is that because the chocolate is warmed by a tealight candle, its not very hot but the chocolate sauce is the best i've personally had so far... comparing against coffee club and those hotel buffets i've had. the seafoodies agreed that its good too!

Ajisen

Lunch today, i was craving for ajisen's toro ramen so i headed down to the branch at Parkway Parade. I specially requested for the meat to not be overlooked like the other time i was at Bugis and it turned out great!

the soup was nice, the noodles went well wif me in terms of the texture and the meat was so soft.. almost melts in the mouth! haha .. i like!

Coffee Club

After dinner, we proceeded to Coffee Club to meet up with some of Edwin's friends, Jack and Jamie. We had chocolate fondue!

the fondue was just ok in my view. the chocolate was warm and thick. Good to note that they include mango as dippers. My mango lover friends would be glad to know that.

somehow, theres just this thing about fondue. although im not particularly a chocolate fondue person, i gotta admit the chocolate fondue is a happy icon. Somehow many friends crowding round a chocolate fondue is just a very happy sight...

Shunjuu

Dinner at Shunjuu. Was supposed to give them a treat at Waraku but i thot Shunjuu was better (and i missed the preserved egg and tofu).

Aside from the cabbage, today they also gave our complimentary fried scallops.....

it was just ok in my view.

and i ordered foie gras...

Check out the amount of oil! Edwin was pretty grossed out by it. haha.. kinda defeats my purpose to trying to get him to like Japanese food.

the chicken wif leek and pork belly....

both were fine.. pretty good.

the oyster wrapped wif beef....

its was huge! taste was just alright.. didnt find it very fresh though...

and in case u're wondering, thats not all we had. But was constantly stopped by the servers not to take pictures. Lionel, if u're reading this, i seriously wonder if its because of the bad review u gave for the place. haha...

QQ Rice

Was craving for the QQ Rice! Located at Novena Square 2.

the station where all the ingredients are...

the rice balls i got....

also bought the pudding and a drink...

the rice ball....

the rice ball's fillings....

all the fillings added together with the rice was simply great! so fun, so healthy and so nice to eat! gotta highlight that they had this dang gui chicken thingy which the taste is so good!

and the puddings....

i think the last time the one i tried was their multi-grain pudding. this time round is their purple rice pudding. i like both but i think i prefer the purple rice one! its really nice and the purple rice on the bottom texturises every mouthful.

Oh.. and good news to those who likes QQ Rice as well. They are opening an outlet at Plaza Singapura soon!

Spageddies

Dylan and i ended up at Spageddies for dinner.

the interior....

the menu....

we shared 2 mains.. one's the ravioli combo....

it comes wif a tomato meat sauce.

the ravioli has cheese fillings....

the ravioli was alright.. the cheese was not very thick and taste not very strong. the meat sauce was good though. i kinda liked it.

the other mains was the crayfish and tenderloin combo....

the tenderloin was done medium...

i would haf preferred if it was done medium rare.. haha.. but Dylan doesnt dare to haf it bloody. portion was rather small though. The crayfish unexpectedly, turned out to be rather good. portion was considerably bigger den i had expected wrapped around a coat of cheese. Nice!

The pasta as well! Not to be misled by how plain it looks... its flavourful and tasty. and i'd say its pretty reasonably priced.. thinks its only around $29.

Dylan was pretty mesmerised by the tiramisu on the menu so despite us both feeling really full, we went ahead to order it.....

comes with a cuppa coffee.

a close up of the tiramisu....

it was pretty good. the base is cake soaked with coffee and the cream on top isnt too thick. Portion is pretty good and i like how they used coco powder to deco the top.

Dinner was Dylan's treat! thank cute!

Lim Joo Him Teochew Porridge

I was in the mood for teochew porridge (probably coz was so ill the last 2 days).

Dar dar suggested this teochew porridge place at Beo Crescent...

its very near zouk (and ya, Elyn, its very near ur grandparents' place)....

not sure if this is the name of the place... i'd guess it is....

the stall...

The items....

what we ordered....

the food items were all pretty decent. nothing extraordinary but decent enuff. Not cheap though, whole meal came up to ard $42! My treat this time coz jo-ann missed out on my previous waraku treat.

what i personally liked was the szechuan vegetable.. normally places would cook them wif pork but i dun like it that way. i like it just plain.

also like the spicy bak chor.. the texture was just nice!

Dar liked the duck. the rest of the dishes were all pretty decent.....

our porridge....

bak chor wif century egg...

the business of this stall is really good. like their bak chor!

Xin Wang

after our movie, we went over to xinwang for milk tea and toast (im beginning to get lea's taste buds.. haha)

the milk tea...

and the toast wif condensed milk and butter....

not as good as the one i had at the siglap branch.

Perle Noire

When Meixin asked me for suggestions for my birthday treat, i gave her a few options and she chose Perle Noire after reading Lionel's blog.

687 East Coast Road
64481732
mon-thurs 11.30am -3pm (lunch) & 6pm - 12mn (dinner) last order of food @11pm.
fri - sun, eve & ph 11.30am -1am (all day) last order of food @12mn

The entrance of the place.. if it helps, its located right beside the famous Cheesecake cafe.

Alfresco dining on the outside... i totally love the ambience...

the interior of the place....

The ambience inside is also very fine... dim lighting and beautiful jazz pieces playing in the background.

their menu....

we were first served some buns....

the buns were served pretty hot. Also, its very fragrant. Meixin loved it.. i did find it pretty good as well.....

After my Greenwood experience, i couldnt get my mind off fresh oysters. Was raving to Meixin about it too. So naturally, we ended up ordering fresh oysters coz Perle Noire has quite a selection... They've got those from Canada, Australia and France. But we ordered one each but i think the France one was not available today so it was one Canadian oyster and one Aussie oyster....

can't quite remember which is which.. i think the smaller and darker one is from Canada and the longer and brownish one is from Aussie (if i recall correctly). Kinda prefer the smaller, darker one. Its sweeter in a way. The lighter, brownish one is quite saltish, didnt like that. prices range from $2.95 - $3.95. The France ones range from $5.95 to $7.95.

next thing we ordered was the foie gras ($22.95)....

a closer up view....

the cut up view...

the foie gras was a little over cooked by the side but overall it was pretty alright. The avocado rice was really good with mayo and avocada. The salad by the side also went very well with me. i liked the dressing.

My mains was naturally, without a shadow of doubt, the Yorkshire Pork Rack ($28.95). It was raved by Lionel and Leslie on their blogs respectively as the MUST TRY....

with flash....

a closer up view....

the cut up portion....

now, u've just got a third blog, to rave about it being a MUST TRY! Every bite is a mouthful.. every mouthful is juicy and tender! Its definitely is one of the best pork i've had and i highly recommend it. As you can see, the sauce is a cream based sauce which is not too thick and the big pieces of black things u see is actually prunes. Meixin liked it as well.

Meixin's mains was the Filetto De Manzo (Tenderloin) ($30.95)...

she ordered it medium rare....

Its australian beef tenderloin fillet stuffed with fresh succulent oysters, wrapped with smoked bacon, accompanied by roasted potatoes and vegetables served with red wine sauce.

Overall this dish is fine but i felt that the sides where it was wrapped wif smoked bacon had the bacon taste overpowering the beef so you cant taste much of the beef. But the oyster part was pretty good.. went pretty well with the beef....

for desserts, we shared a brownie with ice cream ($10.95)...

the brownie was served hot and went well wif the ice cream..brownie is a little chewy.. overall was just ok. I felt its a little too pricey for the portion. its a very very small piece.

Overall, the whole dining experience was good. The service was great, food was fine (the pork rack was EXCELLENT) and company was wonderful. Thank cute Meixin for the birthday treat!
