Senso

I've heard about Senso... pretty good reviews. My impression of Senso is that it must be a really high end italian restaurant. Very high end to the extent of around $150 per person per meal kind? So i've not exactly been very willing to head down. but that doesnt mean i'm not keen. haha

so anyway, i specially took an extra hour off lunch and headed down to Club Street.

Senso....

the interior...

btw, that handsome man by the right is Nejid, the sommelier.

the whole place gives a very Italian feel and there was quite a bit of executive lunch crowds. A great place to people watch was what hui said and i can't help but agree. All the men in suits... ooooOoo.. haha

i forgot to take a picture of the menu.. like most atas places, it doesnt come wif pics.. haha... i prefer menus with pics! and when i checked thru the menu, thats when i realised the pricing isnt as expensive as i thought it is. Its actually quite affordable.

I was impressed? amused? intrigued! by the how they place their knives.......

it stands! ok, maybe i sua ku. But, it STANDS!! haha

first, we were served a bread basket......

a close up of the bread basket....

ok, most of u probably already koe by now how i feel towards bread. They seldom impress me (except...im trying hard to think of an example but only Greenwood Fish Market's strikes a sound chord). I'm just simply not a bread person and strongly feel dat bread is a waste of my stomach storage space.. heh..

the bread basket from Senso impressed me though. Im referring mainly to the beauty of the basket. Don't you like it looks lovely and it really just makes you wana reach out to it. And the variety! Typically, most restaurants would only offer one type, at most 2 kinds of bread. Senso's one is quite a selection. And check out those long sticks of ....well, i duno what they are (but im sure u koe which ones im talking about).. they are fun to eat! Taste wise, its ok (because i still am not a bread person. haha)... but my bread lover friends would probably like it.

we also got Nejid to help us with the wine. We told him what we'll be ordering and he presented us with this....

He did show me the wine but... hehe.. i forgot about the name. but its really good. I'm not any wine expert so i can only tell u whether i like it or not. i like it.

when i saw the words "lobster bisque" on the menu, i knew i HAD TO order it. its like one of my favourite soup!

I was presented with a plate with a lobster head and meat w/o soup and the server told me.. " that's it ". I looked at him in amusement... haha.. thats when he came back with my soup and started pouring it in....

my lobster bisque....

a little gimmicky but i like it! Such gimmicks work well when staffs are friendly and can carry it off well. Senso does it wonderfully.

My lobster bisque soup was good. The lobster was really fresh and i was told they haf a lobster tank right outside where they keep the lobsters. No wonder its so fresh!

But it was clear soup. I dun like my lobster bisque to be clear. Its a personal preference actually. I like it creamy and i like it to haf a very strong hay gor taste.

for starters, we had the Mozzarella Senso ($22)....

pic only shows half portion coz we split it up to share.

a closer up view....

Ooo... can u see the cheese inside? heh

the menu reads that its.. " Pan-Fried Buffalo Mozzarella Wrapped In Parma Ham with Black Olive Tapenade ". To begin, i love love love rockets. and they went very well with this dish. in fact, before i came down, Lionel had already told me this is probably one of the must order. the cheese inside is soft but not exactly melting. Its not very strong but went very well with the Parma Ham. The black olive tapenade is also good. Overall, i like it.

For mains, we shared Merluzzo Senso ($32)...

the menu reads... " Roasted Cod Fillet Served With Boiled Potatoes, Rosemary And Olive Oil With Aged Balsamico Sauce ".

a closer up view...

and another...

the cod was cooked really well. Some cod makes me feel gerlard but it didnt happen for this one and i like how they added the balsamico sauce.

and for pasta, we shared a Senza Glutine with Angel Hair Pasta ($26)...

Bet u can't make out what's inside. hee hee hee.. its.. SEA URCHIN! woo! Its served with sea urchin, broccoli and cherry tomatoes in saffron cream sauce. Its so good! they were quite generous with the sea urchin!

a closer up view...

yummy!

den it was dessert time. Nejid came over and presented us with dessert wine....

tastes so good! He said one look at me and he knows i like sweet things... haha... and like my name, June is typically summer where its all bright and sunny. haha.. thanks nejid!

this is Nejid....

so friendly and constantly popping over to ensure everything is satisfactory. Very nice man.

For desserts, we shared a raspberry cheese cake and a Cioccolata E Oro...

the raspberry cheesecake...

the cheesecake was ok. didnt find it particularly impressive but it was ok. Maybe also coz i was really full by then.

the Cioccolata E Oro ($16)...

the menu reads.. " Hot Dark Chocolate Eruption With Raspberries,Gold Leaves And Pistachio Ice Cream ". It reminded me a bit of the typical warm chocolate cake but it turned out to be different. its pretty good. Especially the top part where there are some slightly chewy tasting thingy which im not sure what it is but is good. haha.

initially, i was skeptical about the pistachio ice cream coz my memory tells me that pistachio ice cream usually has that almondish taste which i hate. I was prompted by hui to try and it was good. haha

overall, it was a good meal. i'd love to head back again.

as we walked out, i saw the renowned courtyard.....

im so sorry my pictures do not do the courtyard any credit. u should check out their website and u'll know what i mean. the courtyard is beautiful! Find an afternoon, sit around for a cuppa cappuccino or espresso, u'll literally find yourself transported to Italy! haha

more pics of the court yard...

Thank cute for the meal, Hui.

I like the bread at Senso. I had them again when I went for the wine dinner recently. I noticed that there is no longer any chick pea dips accompanying the bread.
