The Asian Kitchen

Dinner is at The Asian Kitchen at Marina Square...

Their menu...

The beverages we ordered....

the red bean milk tea ($4.50) is crushed ice. Found it alright though the tea taste was not strong. The red bean was alright as well.

the watermelon lime chill ($5) was like watermelon with lime juice blended with ice. Pretty refreshing as well.

the dragon fruit chill ($5) was also quite nice. Kendi quite likes it.

the avocado snow ($5) ordered by icy was complained by fishtank to be not nice. I found it pretty alright but fishtank said theres this place near queensway that has a very nice version (not sure where though).

We ordered a few side dishes while waiting for everyone to arrive. the fresh rice paper rolls ($4.70)...

I found it pretty ok even if its w/o the sauce but the rest all think its not edible w/o the sauce. They all found the sauce pretty good.

Deep Fried Dory Fish ($5.70)...

this dory fish is nice! Its batter is tasty and not too thick. Yummy!

Prawn Toast ($5.70)..

the prawn toast is also quite nice. Quite crispy.

Also ordered a prawn wanton soup to share ($6.50)..

the soup is very pepperish. The wanton was ok. I insisted on ordering this actually. What happened is when i know we're going have dinner at Asian Kitchen, i went onto forums to check out what's nice here. There were people who commented on their xiao long bao so for the whole day, my mind was set with the mentality that i'll have xiao long bao today. Its only when we were ordering that i realised the different Asian Kitchens (ie. different branches) actually serve a somewhat different menu.

for mains, fishtank ordered a shrimp paste rice ($7.70)...

it may look like a simple plate of fried rice. But no, its very very tasty in my view! The shrimp paste is strong and yummy! I found the portion ok but fishtank complained that he was still not full. haha..

Jiamiao had the soft shell crab with chef's curry rice ($8.70)...

most of us only tried her curry. We pretty much dun like it coz its sweet. Jiamiao liked it though. haha.. since its her mains, i guess whats important is that she likes it. haha

loh gong zai and icy both ordered the tom yum seafood noodle soup ($7.70)....

loh gong zai had the glass noodle (dang hoon) while icy had the stick noodle (kway teow). The soup may look clear but its got its own level of potency. haha.. found it not bad.

Dar dar ordered a viet fried kway teow ($8.70)...

basically its like pad thai. The most unpopular item for the night because it was the last to arrive (everyone's almost full). Its taste was alright but it lost out to the rice dishes.

My vietnamese beef fried rice ($8.70)...

another tasty fried rice. Beef pieces was done pretty alright as well. Not super tender but not tough. Kendi and loh gong zai both prefered this over the pork chop fried rice that Kendi ordered while i quite like the pork chop fried rice so we did an exchange later.

Kendi had the pork chop fried rice ($8.70)...

the pork was ok in my view. I only had a small bite coz i generally dun like pork chops unless its super nice. But the rice of this pork chop rice, dun see it white white plain plain.. its really tasty. U'll be surprised. I dun quite know how to explain the taste.... the closest i can think of is chicken rice. Yummy!
