we were walking around Robertson Quay and Aaron chose shunjuu for dinner....
i vaguely recall reading rather bad reviews of this place on lionel's blog but i cant remember why he didnt like it.. in fact, i dun even remember dat this place is somewhat like kazu. I did, however haf a much better dining experience den Lionel though.
they also gave cabbage (Aaron corrected me when i said it was lettuce.. but but but.. it was Cynthia who told me its lettuce!) with miso paste....
in comparison, i think its pretty similar to what kazu offers but i slightly prefer Kazu's.
there was also a complimentary starter....
it was slightly sweet, has seaweed and some preserved vege thingy and sesame... everything was very soft.. not bad i'd say.
i asked the lady for a recommendation and she recommended the preserved egg with tofu....
it proved to be a wonderful recommendation!! it was so good!! its slightly sweet and the tofu is amazingly soft! the roe added texture to the dish and its only $3. Adrian and myself loved it. i foresee myself coming back specially for this dish!
the guys ordered a tempura as well.....
i tried the prawn, its not bad.
for the skewers, we ordered a squid...
the squid was alright.
shitake mushrooms and green pepper...
the mushrooms were alright.. i koe adrian likes them. the green pepper i didnt try coz i didnt like them.
shishamo....
found it ok.
pork belly wif leek....
THUMBS UP! very nice! comparatively it seems to be bigger in portion as compared to kazu.. taste wise, both are good in their own ways.
chicken cartridges...
i didnt koe these can be ordered! its pretty crunchy..... lol
chicken heart....
these are good! we ordered 2 sets! better than the brazilian ones i've tried. in fact its pretty different.
chicken wif leek...
tender chicken cubes.. also, noticeably bigger portion den kazu.
foie gras...
adrian said it melts in his mouth! haha.. its pretty good but i think kazu's one is better.. not as oily.
the pork belly...
also really good.. also feel that the portion is bigger den kazu.. nice!
the guys ordered ox tongue...
haha.. they loved it. i found it good but not as good as i thot it'd be.
the whole meal came up to around $130.
