Noodle House Ken

after work, arranged to meet dar at Orchard Plaza to search for the reknowned Noodle House Ken. After i posted that entry on the Marutama Ramen on my food blog, quite a no. of people have kinda asked me to do a comparison against Ken and also i've got people responding to rave about Ken. Got me so excited to wana give it a try.....

its located at level 1 of Orchard Plaza. We took seats on a seperate inside section....

Their menu...

pretty similiar to Marutama... a rather compact menu list.

we shared a gyoza....

a close up of the fillings here....

the gyoza was not fantastic in my view. it was just ok.. pretty average.

den it was the raman... i kinda raved about it to dar after having the impression that its really good so instead of our usual practice of ordering different items, we both ordered the ramen. We both had the char siew ramen with an egg.....

the egg... i was told by lionel when he had it, it was semi liquid (oOoo!) but ours was.......

i mean its still ok.. but not wat i expected. Maybe its just inconsistency.

den the noodles.....

it vaguely reminds me of the yellow noodles we usually haf for fish ball noodles. It didnt go well on me. As for dar, she commented that she preferred Ajisen's to this ... which i kinda agree. i rem the first time i went wif lionel, i was kinda impressed by the soup and noodles that made me crave for it for the next couple of days. Ken's didnt have dat kinda effect on me.

and the char siew.....

i remember someone commented on my blog after my Marutama entry that the char siew here is the best he's ever had... i guess its really to each his own. i found the char siew here somewhat similiar to the usual char siew which is why i was never really into the japanese char siew. Bottom line is, i much prefer Marutama's char siew which was softer. But of coz, this is just a personal preference. im sure Ken's supporters have their own reasons for liking Ken's version. i mean, taste IS subjective.

oh.. and thinking that maybe the best char siew could be the side order char siew, we decided to give it another try.....

its somewhat cold.. with chilled beansprouts below. While its ok.. .. well, its just ok.

Ramen is typically at around $12 per bowl over here.. i didnt koe how much was the meal coz dar treated. thanks dar! its relatively cheaper den Marutama .. and its also true its got lotsa japanese patrons .. so maybe it really is good, authentic ramen which we both failed to appreciate.

We did see some people having their char siew rice which did look pretty delectable! *regret*.. should have ordered different items to try!
