Say Cheeze Cake

Seafoodies February gathering @ Say Cheeze Cake.

fishy chose the set meal which came wif soup and salad and a drink so crabby could haf her iced lemon tea.

the salad was free flow from the salad bar which clammy went to get...

looks good eh? the round balls of potato looked like meatballs!

the soup dat came wif the set meal was mushroom cappaccino...

it looks so much like coffee dat fishy cant believe its a soup..

the soup was not bad.

i ordered the lobster bisque which i didnt manage to try the other time...

its pretty good! there are small cubes of prawn/lobster like bits.. quite nice. and the hay gor taste is strong. hehe.. i like~ the garlic bread dat came along wif it is very nice! its a thin slice of very well toasted bread so its really crispy and the garlic spread is very nice!

and since my previous experience with their salmon risotto which tasted like salmon baked rice was very good, i reordered it....

sadly today the salmon's doneness was different. its more cooked so its not as nice.

fishy chose the miso salmon....

which was ok but nothing impressive.

squiddy chose the tenderloin...

done medium rare....

it was EXTREMELY TENDER.. really very very tender... BUT extremely tasteless! cant taste the beef taste, not much taste from the sauce either. Its such a shame.. otherwise it would haf been a very good steak.

Willy Wonka Berry Tingles

Recommended to seafoodies the Willy Wonka Berry Tingles....

I-Shan was the one who kinda recommended this to me during the trip and i really like it! its frizzy!! A little bit like the coca cola sweet we buy from mamashops when we were really young!

Starburst

Fishy's specially requested starburst...

fishy told us its so chewy theres juice inside!

bluff one! duno haf loh! we realised the different bags have different levels of chewiness! Luckily i randomly picked a few different bags when i was there. But overall the seafoodies like it and found it very addictive. so much so we had to ask fishy to keep it and not leave it on the table. lol

Menotti

Was showing Anna my food blog coz she's also into food and the end result was both of us feeling very hungry! We could knock off early today and there was some time before meeting the seafoodies so Anna and myself headed down to Menotti for a meal.

i ordered the crab cakes to share... was telling Anna dat crab cakes are a whole ball of crab meat. she used to think its the artifical crab stick kind. haha...

today's crab cakes isnt as good as before. its not as salty i think.

den we shared 3 GOOD cakes....!

Duomo...

the chocolate oozing out from inside...

the top part is some creme brulee like thingy and bottom is like some biscuit. this used to be my favourite cake from Menotti.. i still like it.. but i cant decide which one's my favourite! haha

anna and myself both got really excited when we saw this...

maybe because we've not seen this before and its so nicely decorated like a delicate present!

its pretty good as well. top part is pretty milky and the bottom is those hazelnut praline kinda crunch. nice!

Anna's favourite, the souffle like warm chocolate cake...

served wif ice cream and oozing chocolate cake. I really cant decide which one i prefer!

Manhattan Fish Market

Dinner @ Manhattan Fish Market.

the seafood chowder...

tomato based cream soup. was not bad.... not very strong in taste but nice in its mild way.

and oh.. i was so so so so upset when the server told me they no longer haf crispy shrimps on their menu! he said its due to low demand... how can dat be? dats like my favourite item on their menu! sob! cheap n good! management of manhatten fish market, if u see this, can u pls pls pls bring it back?

we also shared a seafood platter.. the flaming kind...

the set...

overall its not too bad but i personally still prefer fish & co.'s for their grilled stuff instead of the fried. haha just a personal preference!

Golden Cafe

Golden Cafe.

dear dear had tom yam soup....

i tried and found it alright... its not fair to hear my comments coz im not a tom yam or spicy food person. dear dear said its nice.

ah mah pig ordered the mee goreng under dear dear's recommendation....

its yummy! not super spicy but its pretty good.

i ordered the beef hor fun....

major tasteless. the beef is tasteless, the sauce is tasteless, the hor fun is tasteless =(

The Palace

Sorina's lunch at this Korean restaurant at basement 1 of Chevron House..

sorina had some korean spicy noodles thingy...

a closer up view....

i tried the soup was ok but it actually tastes quite like instant noodles. haha..

Bento Place

I was craving for something soupy so dear dear and Jasmine recommended Bento Place at the basement of chevon house....

i actually took the above pic the next day coz i forgot to take it today.. and immediately there was this man who walked out and shouted at me sounding really fiercely.. expression looked like he was gonna turn violent but of coz he didnt.. n he said.. " xiao jie? ni shi zuo shen mer de? wo men zhe li bu ke yi sui bian rang ni pai zhao " .... so i merely just walked away.

as for why they are so uptight about it, i dun really koe.. its not like they already know that i dun think much of their food and will give my honest opinon on my blog? or are they already aware that their food aint fantastic so they dun need honest publicity?

anyway, we shared a chicken karage...

its quite decent though a little expensive for the portion. costs $4 plus i think.

for mains, i had a char siew ramen, non spicy...

the soup was decent, noodles was ok also. but the char siew is definitely not up to standard. the char siew tasted like lean meat.. very boring char siew.

dear dear had the tempura udon...

tastes fine.

jasmine had the same char siew ramen but hers is spicy....

overall food was ok.. ok as in can eat but nothing special. but due to the service, i most prob will not return. i had my bag on a chair and i do understand its lunch hour but instead of asking nicely, the man spoke really loudly commanding (not ask hor) i remove my bag and insisting the group on my left to shift over.

yes, its lunch hour, restaurants want to maximise seatings for business but theres no reason to be rude about it. also, if u're a stall selling food at $3 per packet... naturally i wun be expecting any service .. but this place smelly smelly also can be called a RESTAURANT right? i pay around $9 bucks for my ramen, i think its reasonable to expect at least politeness.

Cityfront Kopitiam

Cityfront Kopitiam
No. 9 Lorong Telok
Singapore 049022

tel: 65324331, 65323226

Meixin and i shared a chicken cutlet and a fish and chips...

the chicken cutlet...

enormous portion. earlier on, martin n weicai couldnt really finish theirs. Their chicken cutlet is really GOOD. its very crispy yet the chicken is thick, tender and juicy. aside from the usual fries and coleslaw, they also add a man tou and a fried egg. costs $6.50.. not cheap but if u share its pretty ok.

the fish and chips....

i like it. also thick and fresh. i actually prefer this to the fish n chips i had in perth =p

TCC - Devil's Chocolate Cake

Paulyn's surprise birthday celebration. Carol got her a cake from TCC.

i think its Crabby's favourite cake from TCC.. its the Devil's Chocolate cake...

anna and i shared a piece. its very smooth dark chocolate moose on top with a thin spread of raspberry den the chocolate cake. not bad.
lunch with sayang today and i also asked ah mah pig along. sayang brought us to this kopitiam along circular road (i think).

its called Lucky Cafe tel: 65330070

shared a fish soup...

tastes ok only.

was asking sayang to recommend a dish and she mentioned marmite chicken.. immediately, i chose it! when ah mah pig arrived and saw my dish, she wanted it immediately too...

overall its pretty good. its fried chicken den stir fried.. but the marmite sauce taste was not strong.. in fact its very sweet so i didnt really like it coz i expected it to be a strong marmite sauce taste. But i think ah mah pig liked it.

sayang had small chilli chicken...

which is very nice! i personally prefer this over the marmite chicken coz the chicken is not deep fried! and the sauce is really nice... chicken is tender..yummy!

Sayang treated for lunch! thank cute sayang!

Monday, February 25, 2008

The Moomba Tuckshop

anna was craving for some sexy desserts she said. haha... we shared a macademia tart....

and a walnut carrot cake...

both were pretty decent. personally prefer the carrot cake.. the caramelised nuts on top is crunchy!

Honshitsu

Lunch with Anna, Carol and Sorina @ Honshitsu..
15 North Canal Road

Tel: 65332204
www.awdholdings.com/honshitsu.html

anna had a fried tofu...

i ordered the tamago...

pretty alright.

and we shared a avocada maki...

each piece is very small but decent in taste.

sorina had a oyako don but because she duno requested it to be wetter, they gave her alot of sauce and she joked about it being oyako porridge....

but its pretty good. not a very big bowl but ok portion.

i had the chicken karage ramen...

decent.. the chicken karage would probably taste better if served seperately from the soup.

Carol's mushroom ramen...

tried a bit of the soup.. the soup is pretty nice, same as my ramen, comes wif quite a bit of garlic bits.

Carol treated, thank cute!

Qantas

the onflight meal today was option of some lamb dish and a chicken dish. obviously dats not much of an option for me. heh...

the chicken was some curry chicken like dish but its not very spicy. taste was good.

Red Rooster (Perth)

Red Rooster! Forum also got say nice.. but i was too full to eat so i tabao!

they are apparently famous for their roast chicken...

they have equally nice fries like kfc. the roast chicken is nicely seasoned wif spices but i wasnt wowed.

KFC (Perth)

for lunch, i made it a point to try out their kfc. I heard from Sean dat their kfc uses fresh chicken and not frozen chicken.. duno if i remember correctly but he was just telling me that their kfc is much better den back home.

the first thing i noted was their fries. its the thick long kind like our mos burger ... and it tastes much better! its really GOOD. the chicken is really good. Bigger and juicier!

and the whipped potato...

this made me remember why i used to like kfc's whipped potato but not anymore. haha

Macdonalds (Perth)

macdonalds for breakfast.

i had one of their burgers...

their sausage for the sausage muffin is beef. u get the option of any drink so i chose strawberry milkshake. A little too sweet for my liking. the best milk shake i've had so far is still from london. Hashbrown was pretty similar to wat we have over here.

Kaili's (Perth)

Kaili's....

half a dozen of fresh oysters....

the oysters here and not big but its good! reminds me of the oysters dat i couldnt stop eating @ Broth's reopening (those were really fantastic). They didnt serve it wif chilli but with a sauce dat reminded me of soya sauce. Its quite a refreshing way to haf the oysters... nice!

and i also had a bbq half lobster!

a closer up view...

look!

need i say more?
YUMMY YUMMY YUMMY!
i like lobsters!

Cicerello's (Perth)

By around dinner time, i walked over to the place where Sean brought me to the other night...

since i've already tried Kaili's, i decided to try Cicerello's. But i didnt realise Cicerello's didnt exactly have grilled seafood, the section i missed out the other day at Kaili's. However, Cicerello's menu is pretty good, pretty 'flexible' in that sense. I can order the fish w/o the chips and i can order individual seafood seperately w/o them coming in a whole big platter!

so what i did was, i ordered the fish, one scallop, one oyster and one potato cake....

the fish was alright in my view. in comparison, i prefer Kaili's fish. Cicerello's one feels thinner with more batter so i kinda had to seperate the batter and just have the fish.

the potato cake was not nice...i only had a bite. They did accidentally include a stick of french fries in my fish though.. it tasted pretty good.

a close up of the scallop and oyster....

the scallop is very good!

i prefer Cicerello's scallop to Kaili's! they seem to use different types of scallop.

and the oyster...

also yummy yummy!!

Cicerello's actually have got ships where u can board and have a meal on board. But of coz i didnt go for that option.

Gino's (Perth)

After shopping around Fremantle market itself, i went for drinks at Gino's (another much raved about place on forums)...

had a glass of hot cocoa....

comes with marshmallows! n its so YUM!

sat at Gino's for quite awhile to people watch and enjoy a leisure afternoon. great feeling!

Fremantle Market Bubble Tea (Perth)

ome japanese noodle place within the market....

sells bubble tea....

with excellent pearls!!

im not kidding! its so much better den some of the bubble tea shops here in sg. their pearls are actually really soft and slightly sweet. yum yum!

Jesters Pie (Perth)

I found Jesters Pie!!!! located along Market street near Fremantle Market.

was too full and they got quite a good collection of pies on their menu! each one looks great!

i settled for the spud deluxe ($4.50)...

its ground beef with creamy potato, bacon and topped wif cheddar cheese. its VERY GOOD! right under the top puff is a chewy layer of cheese den theres potato in a mashed texture and den theres beef... MMmmmm!!

Amano Gelato (Perth)

Amano Gelato...

they haf quite a variety of ice cream and popsicle.. pity i was alone so i settled for a watermelon popsicle....

its quite refreshing but a lil too sweet.. couldnt finish it but its worth a try.

Tea Culley's Rooms (Perth)

Breakfast was Tea Culley's Rooms..

116 High Street,
Fremantle

Phone: (08) 9335 1286

couldn't decide between caramel slice and apple slice so....

Apple slice...

very different from apple pie and apple crumble. its crunchy apple (likely to be green) and the top and bottom is sugared crusted pastry.

Caramel slice...

the top is a rather thick layer of chocolate... tastes good!

also had a pie because i keep recalling that people from the forum said theres a Jester pie around Fremantle area dats really good yet i've not come across it. was worried i'd not find it.

their beef minced pie...

yum yum!! i think aussie is really good wif pie!

and the service here was superb! I obviously ordered alot but the server wasnt even stopping me! she seemed to understand dat i just wana try a bit of everything and she even told me i can haf a free cuppa coffee or tea!

she recommended me their cappuccino...

tastes great!

The Greek (Perth)

Dinner with new found friends! Joey and I-Shan from singapore and Junshin from Korea!

we walked around James Street and decided on this greek restaurant because it seemed very crowded so we're guessing food should be good. haha

124 James Street
Northbridge
Western Australia 6003
Tel: (08) 9227 7346
thegreek@thegreekperth.com

we started off with champagne....

to celebrate this blooming friendship!

garlic bread!

nice!

calamari...

pretty good as well. a lil diff from wat we have locally.

oysters....

comes wif bacon! reminds me of cockles actually. but not bad!

this other dish is recommended by I-shan..

i can't remember the name but its ma-something. She has tried it before at some other greek restaurant i think. its got minced beef n lamb inside actually and I-shan and myself actually dun take lamb but u cant really taste the lamb. its really good. its abit like lasagna in terms of taste .... theres minced meat n potato.. top part is like some melted cheese. Really good!

Peter recommended the bbq so we went for the bbq plate or something...

comes with sausage, lamb and chicken. didnt really haf the lamb but the sausage and chicken was really good! nicely seasoned!

Pinnacles Day Tour Lunch (Perth)

my lunch from the Pinnacles land tour...

closer up view of the lobster....

comes with 4 moderately big sized prawns and a half lobster. But if u ask me i'd say its not worth the money. u're better off having them at places like kaili.

Mrs Mac's Pies (Perth)

Mrs Mac's beef pie...

its SO GOOD! I didnt have the pastry part though.. but the fillings is SO GOOD!.. its tasty and the beef taste was there.. didnt expect instant pies to taste so good!

Wednesday, February 20, 2008

Kaili's (Perth)

Sean picked me up around 7 pm and i told him i'd like to haf the Famous Fremantle Fish & Chips.. he was really nice and obliging, driving me all the way there.

pictures around Fremantle...

arent u just allured by the enchanting blue cloudy sky? Every where just looks so picturesque!

the restaurants area....

and its by the sea where there are lotsa ships.

Cicerello's is one of their very popular fish and chips restaurant....

but Sean said Kaili's is better so we went Kaili's.

Kaili's.....

the way they work is u order at the counter.. den they'll pass u a pager....

when ur order is ready, this pager will ring, vibrate and flash! haha.. SO COOL RIGHT!

i ordered ALOT coz i thot i wun haf any chance to be back and i really wanted to thank Sean for being so nice.

the seafood chowder....

thick creamy yummy soup wif generous portions of fish. i really liked the soup.

prawn cocktail...

tastes ok.. its some tangy thousand island like sauce ... didnt find it worth it.

grilled fish and chips...

found the grilled fish ok only. normally i'm more of a grilled den fried fish person but the grilled fish wasnt exactly my type.

the fish and chips wif scallops, prawns n squid..

the scallop was good...

the fried fish was also really nice! thick and fresh! the prawns and squid was good too.

chilli mussels....

a big big bowl.. but the mussels itself was really small and not nice! sean said its usually quite nice but duno why today's one isnt nice. pretty tasteless.

by the time we walked back to his car, it was around 8 plus and the sun was slowly setting..

took pic of this beautiful sight...

and sean pointed out to me how even the moon is rounder here....

haha!

Icy Icz (Perth)

was pretty exhausted after all the shopping and wanted to look for a place to sit and rest... saw Icy Icz....

the shaved ice dat we haf in singapore too! i had the strawberry flavour...

pretty good!

Han's Cafe (Perth)

for lunch, i went to Han's Cafe. Scott told me that they serve really good Asian food....

Han's Cafe
546 Hay Street Perth
WA 6000

Tel: 93253787

i ordered the beef rice noodle soup....

closer up view....

the portion is HUMONGOUS! its almost 3 - 4 times more den what our local portions are. taste wise, its fabulous! the soup especially was really good! the beef was ok.. the rice noodles are really good too... very soft! there's also this scoop of something which im not too sure what it is.. can be vaguely viewed in the first pic of the noodles. i initially thot its chilli but it isnt.. its somewhat salty.. dat is quite nice!

Stuzzico (Perth)

Woke up pretty early to go for breakfast... had pizza from Stuzzico (located along Hay Street).....

i thot they haf pamma ham and rocket pizza.. which they do but they didnt haf it this morning =( they only have salami....

was pretty good. the crust may not be very thin but its very crispy! the tomato sauce is pretty good also!

Tuesday, February 19, 2008

Paton's Abalone Macadamia Nuts (Perth)

abalone macadamia nuts....

i was so excited when i saw this! Meina had mentioned this to me a couple of years back... finally i get to try this. Its slightly saltish but not bad. Quite expensive, around A$9 per can. a little gimmicky but worth the try. Meina, i got u a bottle coz i remember u love it... quickly claim from me SOON or it'll be gone before u know it! haha

Hungry Jack's (Perth)

Saw Hungry Jacks around City Central....

in case u're like me wondering why Burger King allows this Hungry Jack to look exactly like Burger King, it IS actually Burger King.

extracted from Wikipedia..

" When Burger King decided to expand its operations into Australia, it found that its business name was already trademarked by a man running a small takeaway food shop in Queensland. As a result, Burger King provided the Australian franchisee, Jack Cowin, with a list of possible alternative names that the Australian Burger King restaurants could be branded as. The names were derived from pre-existing trademarks already registered by Burger King and its then corporate parent Pillsbury. Cowin selected the "Hungry Jack" brand name, one of Pillsbury's US pancake mixture products, and slightly changing the name to a possessive form by adding an apostrophe 's' thus forming the new name Hungry Jack's. Accordingly, the first Australian franchise of the Burger King Corporation, established in Perth in 1971, was branded as Hungry Jack's. "

and though i was not hungry, i felt inclined to try one of their burgers. whoppers and all were be too too much for me so i went for a simple cheeseburger....

didnt really taste the bread.. it tastes quite abit like our local Mcdonald's cheese burger wif a slightly better ketchup. the beef patty was also similiar...nothing impressive in my view.

Shimizu (Perth)

Harbour Town
Shop B29, Harbour Town
840 Wellington Street
West Perth WA 6005
Tel: 08 9481 7779
www.shimizu.com.au

had their teriyaki chicken ramen....

the soup was good! chicken felt a little oily but generally good.

Ispa Kebabs (Perth)

Ispa Kebabs, Harbour Town level 1....

i had the chicken kebab....

its SOOOO GOOD!

the wrap is not too thick. the chicken is tender, nicely seasoned and generous in portion. there's also cheese... its yummy!

The Margaret River Chocolate Company (Perth)

Margaret River Chocolate Company...

The Margaret River Chocolate Company - Swan Valley
5123 West Swan Road
West Swan
PH: (08) 9250 1588

the interior...

Free chocolates to sample...

some of the chocolates they sell....

we passed by Oggie's Ice Creamery earlier but too bad dats not part of our tour. Our tour guide told me that Chocolate Factory's ice cream is good too so i decided to try....

its some honey macademia ice cream with rum and raisin....

the honey macademia ice cream was really good! its got this mild honey taste dat goes really well wif the nuts. the rum and raisin wasnt fantastic though. the rum was not strong and the raisins were big but pretty tasteless.

anyway, them making the chocolate..

Miss Maud Swedish (Perth)

Prior to coming over to Perth, i read the forums and found out about Miss Maud. Its a Swedish hotel with a buffet restaurant. They are apparently very famous for their Smorgasbord Breakfast!

Miss Maud Swedish Hotel
97 Murray Street
Perth
Postal Address: PO Box M 974
Perth Western Australia 6001

Telephone: (08) 93253900

International Tel: (61-8) 93253900

looks so pretty eh? Makes me feel like im over in Europe rather den Aussie.

dinner time!

They had a man performing.....

the interior of the restaurant....

their buffet costs A$40 and its got quite a big selection of food!

the cold cuts....

check out the different types of ham...

the best part is they haf a pamma ham like ham... MY FAVOURITE!

seafood....

mussels...

prawns..

oysters...

baby lobsters....

out of the above, i only had the baby lobsters and the oysters. Pretty fresh!

the herrings... the kind where we always find at Ikea!

cheese selection...

the savoury dishes...

MEATBALLS!!

but didnt find the meatballs really good. Ikea's one is much much better!

DRUMSTICK!!

fwah... DAMN GOOD!

quiche...

ROAST BEEF!!

MMmm.. YUM YUM!

one of my plates...

cakes and pastries...

princess cake!

the ikea singapore got me thinking dat the top part of the princess cake is kaya.. i should haf known! haha.. nevertheless, their princess cake is still pretty good especially the cake and cream area. I merely didnt like the green part which is marzipan instead of kaya.

another cake....

kinda reminds me of Broth's Pavlova with egg white in the centre and meringue like pastry on the side and custard on the top.. pretty good!

overall a delightful meal!

Qantas

On my Qantas flight to Perth..

had the option of some pasta or grilled fish and i went for the grilled fish...

thai chicken salad....

a little sour, a little spicy, served chilled. tasted alright.

the grilled fish...

didnt expect it to be salmon. in fact i'd hope its not salmon. The salmon is overcooked so i didnt find it good. Kinda miss Say Cheeze Cake's salmon (so good!). The pumpkin puree was not bad though. But overall, i wouldnt say its good.

loh gong zai had urged me to buy a bottle of wine when i arrive in Perth coz he said it'll help me sleep better especially since he knows how timid i can be, at night sure cannot sleep. But u all know me, i dun like to drink and i hate spending money on alcohol so i figured i might as well drink on flight... had their sparkling wine....

didnt finish, dun find it nice.

Imperial Treasure Noodle & Congee House

got to the airport around 6 plus for my flight... took a cab. My parents had wanted to send me off but i couldnt allow that because if i did that'll mean they'll know i'm going alone. haha..

Cynthia prompted me to have some breakfast although i wasnt hungry so i had wanton soup from Imperial Noodle & Congee House (Changi Airport Terminal 1)...

its pretty alright, the filled with shrimps kinda wanton which i like.. soup was ok as well but in comparison, i think i prefer Crystal Jade's.

Saturday, February 16, 2008

Ling Zhi

'Family' reunion lunch was at Ling Zhi (Novena Square)...

we ordered some dim sum and some dishes.

some yam dim sum...

filled with dim sum and some vege...

was not bad. the outside was crispy, not too oily.

Carrot cake...

was decent but i still prefer my crystal jade's carrot cake. the chopsticks was because they said with chopsticks the food would look more appetising in the pictures! hahaha

custard roll....

quite nice! soft like mochi, custard fillings was not too sweet.. the white powder reminded me of pearl powder.

char siew bao....

with mock char siew inside...

decent. didnt really feel dat its not meat but also didnt feel dat its 'meaty'.

siew mai....

filled wif radish n carrots kinda vege.. was decent but i much prefer the real kinda siew mai.

same for the har gao....

spring rolls...

they said they tried their spring rolls several years back and found it very good. It was ok in my view.. havent been a very spring roll person to begin with.

den this item we cant remember if its dim sum or dish... ah gong pig ordered.. he said its some ba bao duno wat tingy....

portion was HUGE.. its not bad, lotsa vege inside but not wow-ing...

finally, the popular Hou Tou Gu which i kept pronouncing it as Hou Tou Nao (i.e. Monkey Brain).. haha...

inn leng has told me about this dish previously and i've always had this visualisation dat its one big round ball of brain looking mock meat. haha

the intersaction after one bite...

its not bad. really does taste a bit like meat.

some vegetable dish...

dun find it anything special.

Sweet n sour fish....

mock fish...

dun find it tasting like fish.. also didnt find it very nice. I remember Inn Leng brought me to Yogi Hut and their fish soup was much much better!

some noodle..

the soup base was not bad... found this dish a little boring. haha

There was 8 of us... each paid ard $28.

Dennis

Jo-ann, Yonghua and myself headed over to Shenton way's ktv.

we ordered food from Dennis to be delivered into our room.

Tuna salad...

nice!

mozarella sticks....

a closer up view...

its not as good as previously when Deanie ordered it.

Hammie munch....

popular amongst us seafoodies!

a closer up view....

today's one isnt as good though. not sure why.

jo-ann chose the maryland fried chicken which Sunantha had highlighted to me previously. She said Charles said its good...

its really good!! the fried chicken is not dry.. crispy yet juicy and tender chicken with bacon strips on top!

jo-ann also ordered the mushroom steak..

for the price, i'd say its really good. the sauce isnt wonderful (a little artificial) but the steak was really thick and juicy!! Yum yum! dun expect it to be any fabulous cut but its a regular piece of steak and reasonable for the price.

Jo-ann treated for ktv.. thank cute!

Say Cheeze Cake

had lunch at Say Cheeze Cake (Great World City, level 1)...

they've got really comfy plush sofas...

food wise, i found myself very torn between ordering the laksa chowder and the lobster bisque. I've always loved lobster bisque and not much of a laksa person. But from the menu, i saw that their laksa chowder is served in a coconut! Looks sooooo interesting! Yet i was worried its gimmicky and like i said, im not really a laksa person..

i end up still going for the laksa chowder ($8.90)....

LOOKS GOOD RIGHT?

a closer up view...

the soup wif the coconut pulp...

its really quite good! the line of seafood on top is fresh and nicely barbequed. yummy!

the soup has a light laksa fragrance ... and it gets even better towards the end when i scooped the pulp of the coconut and the juice adds to the soup.. its really yummy!

for mains, i ordered a Baked Salmon Risotto ($14.90)...

a closer up view...

its really good as well! But it doesnt taste like risotto. its more like baked rice. But not complaining because the salmon is so darn good!

LOOK!

the salmon is nicely done, not overcooked... u can still see the colour of the fresh salmon! its really good!

the rice isnt fantastic but is considered decent.

and from the name, you most probably already know cheesecake is their speciality. I was also wondering if i should get their 'limited edition' pulau hitam cheesecake or apple crumble cheesecake or baileys cheesecake... they've got quite a variety!

i ordered the baileys cheesecake...

its not too bad but didnt find it fantastic. i'm more impressed by the soup and my salmon rice.

Monday, February 11, 2008

Thai Express

Met up with Xinhui. We had Thai express for dinner.

Xinhui had some soft shell crab tang hoon....

it was not bad, quite pepperish.

i was actually quite full but xinhui said its awkward to eat alone so i ordered the honey chicken rice....

drum meat but way too sweet!

we shared a dessert. it was a coconut ice cream with red bean paste...

also find it too sweet but xinhui likes it!

Bentendo

Went over to Great World City.. had lunch at Bentendo....

this place kinda reminds me of pasta de waraku. But pasta de waraku seems to have slightly more variety in the menu.

i had a pamma ham wif baby spinach salad...

overall its nice but the baby spinach is very different from the one at Broth. In fact i think its coz Broth uses some pretty special baby spinach which is thicker and hence gives it a nicer texture. The baby spinach here at Bentendo is much thinner, very similar to those i bought from the supermarket. The pamma ham was ok.. seemed to have alot of those white parts which are very hard to seperate. The cheese was great.

a closer up view of it...

for pasta, i tried their soup pasta coz it was something different from what is typically offered....

a closer up view...

it tastes like pasta ramen style. haha.. mine was bacon wif egg plant. the bacon added taste to the soup as well. Not too bad.

Swensens

After dinner, we also got a cake for Huiying to celebrate her bday...

ice cream cake from Swensens! Napoleon flavour! Didnt find it really good though. Strawberry was very sour, ice cream was just ok.

Ajisen

Late lunch with Jo-ann.

side order of ruan ku...

nice! even jo-ann said its nice.. and she thought its fatty meat.. according to Dennis, its not.. its some healthy meat summore! (if its wrong, dun blame me.. haha)

had wanted to order my ton toro ramen but gave up because i didnt want to hafta re-emphasis to them how i dun want it overcooked or crispy. plus they were having a hokkaido fair promo so we shared a hokkaido seafood set.. costs $19.80 and comes wif the following...

some japanese octopus fish cake thingy....

was ok. just fishcake. haha

some pumpkin thingy...

didnt find it wow-ing

the ramen...

Was not too bad... had squid, crab stick (the higher class kind), scallops and half an egg. but i think i still prefer my ton toro ramen (not overcooked pork strips).

dessert was a red bean ice cream pancake...

Was quite nice!

Coffee Club

Dinner with dar dar at Coffee Club.

chicken pie....

dar ordered this thinking its the country pie. It appears dat they've taken country pie off the menu. I hope Mr Beans still have country pie on their menu.

the chicken pie was relatively nice. the puff was good so was the fillings.

i went for the garlic prawn pasta....

its after my pasta arrived dat dar dar said she cant really stand the smell of garlic these days so i quickly gobbled them up. haha.. the pasta was as good as i remembered. The taste was good, the quantity of prawns were good.. the size of the prawns were good and the prawns were bouncy... i like!

dar ordered wedges...

im typically not a fries or wedges person but their wedges is good! the texture of the potato is very fluffy.. goes really well wif their sour cream sauce!
