Lawry's

Had dinner with Cynthia at Lawry's for her birthday celebration....

the complimentary bread .....

which i didnt have.

and the signature spinning bowl salad.....

which... has never once impressed me in terms of taste. haha...

but point to note is the vegetables look fresher now, no more brown sides and service was much better. Staffs were polite, friendly and smiley. That was a good change.

den the wagon came!

the wagon with all the meat inside!

the chef preparing our orders....

the yorkshire pudding....

it went very well with the au jus that came with the steak. Cynthia didnt seem to like it as much as i did though. heh

and this is Cynthia's english cut... 3 pretty thin pieces....

another view... and she ordered the creamed spinach as a top up...

the creamed spinach was alright.. it was in a mash... pretty ok... i usually like creamed spinach but i didnt find it impressive.

and den my thick lawrys cut....

another view....

and doing a comparison of the different cuts....

the prime rib was oh-so-good as usual! It was done medium rare and the steak was oh-so-tender!!

we also ordered a baked potato to share.. we were given options to mix it with butter, chopped spring onions, bacon and sour cream and they'll mix it at the side for us.

i opted for just the butter and spring onions....

cynthia's one with everything in.....

cynthia really liked the baked potato and i'd say it was really good as well.

for desserts, our set meal came with an option of blueberry cheesecake and chrysanthemum creme brulee.

Cynthia being a cheesecake lover, went for the blueberry cheesecake....

another view of it....

and my creme brulee.....

the blueberry cheesecake was alright in my view. Cynthia seemed to like it so i guess its good?

as for my chrysanthemum creme brulee, it really had the gek huay taste! It was rather special in a way, never actually had chrysanthemum creme brulee before. But comparing it to the original creme brulee i tried during my first visit with Lionel, this one fades in comparsion coz that very first one i had was so robust in taste. it certainly was the best creme brulee i've ever tried so far.

The meal came up to $229... with $100 off, thanks to ABN Amro's masterpiece dining voucher~

Wan Tou Shek

I went over to Wan Tou Shek to satisfy my craving for the lotus rice! hehe...

so there i was, my first visit here in the noon...

and this time, for the benefit of those who are interested, i got their name card!

Wan Tou Shek
126 Eating House

No. 126 Sims Ave 387449

Tel: 67464757, 67454869

i decided to take away coz i had to rush home to pick up cynthia's pressie which i forgot to bring out today...

and i kinda overordered. haha.. had the yummilicious lotus rice which i was craving for the past few days....

it didnt disappoint. the chicken was still as tender, the rice was still as fragrant wif the haybe taste!

and i ordered the har kok.... deep fried prawn erm.. is it fritters or wanton? haha...

its really good! filled wif succulent prawns!

so is the har gao....

its good enough for me to like it. of coz im not expecting u to compare it to the big hotel standards.

Le Viet

Met Charis for dinner at Siglap. She chose the Vietnamist place called Le Viet. Dats when i realised her mum is half vietnamist.. ie. shes got vietnamist blood in her.. no wonder shes so pretty!

Le Viet ...

drinks wise, Charis recommended their sour plum juice....

... which i didn't order. I went for a soft drink. But after trying hers, not only did i order another the same drink, i ordered one to go after dinner. Its refreshing and not too sweet!

we shared one of their vietnamist rolls.....

if u noticed he beansprouts standing, its actually because i had previously requested for one of he rolls to be done w/o the very strong tasting basil leaves (i think its basil leaves)... so to indicate it to us, the very cute server used a tao gay! haha... den later she came over to tell us.. " i tell u something u dun be angry.. i just found out from the kitchen that all 3 dun haf the leaf " haha.. well, we were not angry coz she was really cute and funny and i didnt like that leaf's taste to begin with. Charis was fine with it as well.

next was the prawns wif sugar cane....

Charis was excited about this dish as well. I felt that the prawn paste was just ok but the sugar cane was really good. haha.. the ends were slightly charred and tasted really good!

the sides given for our noodles....

my 3-in-1 noodles!

comes with beef slices, beef balls and tendon. The tendon was kinda chewy, i like it! the beef slice and balls were just ok.. nothing fantastic. overall the whole bowl was pretty alright.. but i seem to remember that madam saigon's one was much nicer.

Service staff of the place left a very good impression.

Peng Lai Ge

Lunch was at Peng Lai Ge to celebrate Xinyan's last day..

456 Joo Chiat Road
Tel: 64781787

Opening hours: 10.30 am to 10.30 pm

we ordered a few sides to share...

the smelly beancurd....

chou chou chou! haha

actually, the smelly beancurds are not that smelly. good for people who just wana try for the novelty but worry about it being too smelly. haha

and the crispy chicken i like!

tender chicken parts nicely fried!

for mains, i ordered my usual lu rou fan...

the sauce is great, comes wif preserved vegetables and stewed egg. Wayne and Sharon also ordered this. Wayne agreed that its good as well.

Shyanne ordered the pork leg rice under the owner's recommendation...

i tried a bit, didn't find it fantastic. the pork leg smell was a little strong so didnt go well on me.

Jery had the kong rou fan....

which was sinful but he seemed to totally enjoy it. was so good he was considering a second bowl. haha.. and i was saying i actually like the meat portion but not the skin or oil. the rest were like shooing me coz thats the main point of eating kong ba. haha

xinyan ordered the pork chop rice....

recall uncle sq ordered it the last time we were here. cant really remember how it tastes but xinyan had no complains so i guess its fine? haha

Tao Kae Noi

Sheena is back to work today! Miss this girl so much! and she was so sweet, knowing my likings for tao kae noi, she got me a pack!

its crunchy! its tasty!

Crossroad Kopitiam

Couldnt join Joseph and Xinyan for lunch today so i got them to ta bao for me. They bought lunch from this coffeeshop along Tanjong Katong Road that's called crossroad coffeeshop. Again, lunch was on Joseph .. thank cute!

They were so thoughtful.. they even got me fried wanton coz they koe i like variety and they felt that it was nice...

and the fried wanton was indeed quite nice. Crispy and tasty!

and my ai xin chicken noodles....

the chicken was tender, taste was great and portion was generous. the noodles were fine and Q. it was great!

Wan Tou Shek

Joseph and i went for supper at Wan Tou Shek!

I had my usual chrysanthemum and Joseph had barley....

and we ordered ALOT of food.. and everything was great! (yes Dennis and Xinyan, we HAFTA go together again!)

Joseph had the century egg porridge and i tried abit of it, was smooth ... would be nicer if there was more ingredients. not that it was miserable, just nicer if theres more. haha

the deep fried fish maw was also good. But it has to be eaten hot because it wun be crispy. Joseph agreed this is nice as well.

the deep fried wanton was also great.. joseph corrected me... he said this is not wanton.. its har kok.. means prawn something? haha ... its just very good. the prawns are much fresher den the last time as well.

the pork ribs are also pretty good as well.

some of the other items....

the har gao was nice..

the xiao long bao's skin was too thick and there was no chap.. haha.. but overall, edible.

the chicken feet was also not bad..

the crab meat or was it sharks fins dumpling was also pretty good... thanks to Joseph's recommendation.

and there.. the special highlights for the meal tonight!!

i'm usually not a lor mai gai kinda person so thats usually something i wun order.... so.... thanks to Joseph again, oh.. and he corrected me, he said that's not lor mai gai... he said dats he ye fan ie. lotus rice. Its so darn GOOD! the rice texture was just nice and it had the mild haybe taste.. ... the chicken was thigh meat (the part which i like) and there was also mushroom.. SIMPLY GREAT! Im so coming back for this!

the siew mai was pretty good as well but the reason why i said its a highlight is because Joseph gave me some tips about siew mai. He's actually from Hong Kong and his uncle actually taught him that u gotta let siew mai cool off a bit first so that the sides of the skin will harden a little (just a little, dun let it turn cold and turn too hard) and thats when its the best texture and temperature to savour it. haha.. it sounded like it did made sense! haha... and i was mildly impressed. haha

a sumptuous and filling supper. *bLurP*... Joseph treated.. thank cute~

Katong Shopping Centre's Black Sesame Paste

Joseph, being the typical mr nice guy, was so thoughtful! He was driving today and he actually recalled that xinyan will be stuck in the office so he offered to buy lunch in for her and he specially made a detour to katong shopping centre to buy the lunch. He also got us a black sesame paste to share.....

i only got to try it much later at night (coz initially was coz i was busy, den it was coz i was very full). The black sesame paste was pretty good. It was really smooth. Thank cute Joseph!

Kdinner

After work, i went to meet up wif Jo at Marine Parade. We went to Kbox for the Kdinner!

Some pictures of the food...

scallops and braised fish...

both were not very tasty.. i kinda think the cineleisure kbox's buffet is more value for money.

the sharks fins soup which we shared....

it was not too bad... of coz, u wun expect real sharks fins inside! haha

and the green curry and chawanmushi...

and a messed up plate of sashimi and crab meat salad (I LIKE!) and salmon...

the deep fried stuff which Jo loves..

it was pretty much a waste of money actually coz we were mainly chatting in the room, not really eating and singing, lotsa catching up to do and we werent very full so we didnt eat to our fill. haha..

New Zealand Natural

was actually quite full but not sure why, had the craving for something sweet and saw New Zealand Natural around....

my cup! $4.50 for 2 scoops!

the macademia supreme is so good! its got a very strong butter taste and its really smooth. Xinyan liked it as well!

Ajisen Ramen

Lunch today was at Ajisen with Xinyan, Joseph and Dennis.

the white fish side dish...

portion was pretty good. its real fish meat inside. not too bad.

the gyoza ...

found it pretty decent.

soft shell crab...

didnt try it so can't comment. but these days, it seems pretty hard to find a nice version of this.

and of coz, the ruan ku!

like it so much! its so tender! Joseph and Dennis were telling me its actually quite healthy... which is good! haha...

for the ramen, we all chose those wif the logo! haha

Dennis had the volcano ramen....

i think he said it was not bad... eh.. am i right, Dennis? haha... this is something i definitely would not order coz i dun really take spicy food. tried abit of the soup and its definitely not for me.

Joseph and myself went for the ton toro ramen!

this is what i've been ordering every time i visit Ajisen these days. haha.. i specially requested for the pork not to be overcooked but sadly, they didnt seem to get my request clear so it was a lil overcooked. But overall, it was still pretty fine.

Xinyan had the paiku ramen......

i believe she liked the dish as well. Soup base was pretty similar to our ton toro i believe. tried a piece of the paiku.. was not bad but i personally prefer ton toro.. its easier to eat in my view. haha

Starbucks

After dinner, Joel and i went for coffee at starbucks....

his hot coffee and my chocolate cream chip....

i like the mini chocolate bits blended in.. adds texture to the drink! thank cute once again Joel for the drink.

Crystal Jade

Dinner with Joel at Crystal Jade to celebrate my belated birthday! haha

We shared a salt and pepper fried squid....

it was really good. especially the seasoning of the salt and pepper. the squid's texture was also really good.

i had a shui jiao mian (dry) .....

the dumplings are good, filled wif succulent prawns.

Joel had a wanton mee (soup)....

Joel treated for dinner, thank cute for the birthday treat!

Japanese Soda

Was yearning for a frizzy drink and saw this in my fridge...

some japanese soda.. probably peach flavoured.. mum said she bought it for me coz it looks interesting and its in pink! its those where u gotta push and a ball pops in... love the colour, love container, love mum's thoughtfulness. hee

Cisco Centre 1

Joseph helped me to buy bee hoon....

it may not look very appetising (Joseph thinks it doesnt look good) but it actually tastes quite good. haha... i actually think whoever the person is cathering food to this mini cafe is quite a good cook.

Joseph's treat! Thank cute Joseph!

Shi Nai

We went to Shi Nai for the seafoodies July gathering.

Diane ordered the pumpkin cake thingy she wanted to order the last time we were here but didnt manage to order....

it was alright but none of us liked it. haha

and we ordered the fried squid.....

squiddy likes the squid! so does crabby and myself. Clammy likes it too but prefers the fried fish fillet.....

i'd say the fried fish fillet is nice as well. its tender and the batter is thin and crispy. the seasoning was also good.

we shared the macau 3 style baked rice....

a good way to try every kind. overall its alright, tasted better the other day.

beef fried hor fun.....

Crabby likes this one. i found it alright... prefer the geylang one but of coz, its a different style.

Original Sin

Dinner was at Original Sin with Inn Leng.

I have previously heard Lionel telling me about it and he was telling me how good the food here is. Its vegetarian but he told me meat lovers like myself won't feel uncomfortable... or rather, its what we usually say, chi de bao BUT chi bu shuang. haha... he said the dishes will be so good, we probably won't notice the absence of meat... woah... so when Inn Leng said she's bringing me here for my birthday celebration (err.. yaya, my bday celebrations have not ceased yet.. haha), i was quite excited!

Blk 43 #01-62 Jalan Merah Saga Holland Village
Chip Bee Gardens
Singapore 278115

Tel : +65.6475 5605

Fax : +65.6475 4416

Operation Hours
Lunch:
Tuesday to Sunday
11.30am - 2.30pm
Dinner:
Monday to Sunday
6.00pm - 10.30pm

After visiting their website, i realised Original Sin is a sister restaurant of Michelangelo's Group of Restaurant, located along Chip Bee Gardens....

we took seats inside.....

i let Inn Leng do the ordering since she's been here before and its her favourite restaurant.

For salad, we had the Principessa ($16)...

Avocado, asparagus, mushroom, tomato, bocconcini, French beans, roasted pumpkin and mesclun, with a balsamic vinaigrette. It was indeed good. Ingredients were fresh and a good fix. What i thought was special was the roasted pumpkin. Portion was good as well. It is a little pricey but considering its fine dining, i guess it works out there.

Next up was the Magic Mushroom....

the menu says its baked portobello mushroom stuffed with ricotta cheese, spinach, pesto and pine nuts, topped with a tomato basil sauce and mozzarella. Its really GOOD. The mushroom is about the size of my palm! and the toppings, all the cheese and spinach (and i love the pine nuts)... its a little pizza-ish style except the bottom is mushroom. i like it!

Following on is the Bosco misto ($25)

Its spinach, feta and tofu patties served with sautéed button mushrooms in a plum sauce and topped with asparagus. The mushrooms and asparagus went wif for me. The tofu patty was alright but not quite what i like. I mean, it is nice and im sure alot of other people would like it. its just a personal preference.

and pasta wise, we had the Broccolini ($24) ....

Aglio olio style spaghetti tossed with baby broccoli, spinach, asparagus, artichoke, fava beans, pesto and parmesan. This item is so tasty! And i especially like how they give thick, shaved pieces of parmesan instead of the fine kind. I'd say this dish and the magic mushroom won me over for tonight.

desserts wise, Inn Leng went for the brownie wif coconut sorbet. Their brownie is made w/o eggs which suits Inn Leng. and to replace the typical vanilla ice cream we haf wif brownies, they replaced it wif coconut sorbet.. how thoughtful!

i tried a bit of it, found it pretty alright. I mean, i dun find it amazingly wow.. but its good.

as for me, i went for the mud cake...

Its not the mud cake like the coffee club's.... which i koe alot of people like it coz its like one huge piece of ice cream.... i kinda prefer this kind where its really a piece of cake, slightly warm, slightly textured and blends so well wif ice cream!

Thank cute Inn leng for the dinner treat!

7 - 11 Nachos

Dennis bought nachos from 7-11...

he was telling us the nachos buying experience at 7-11. gotta do wif the amt of cheese... cant share the full story here but it was funny when Joe and Eric walked by and commented about their 4x experience the day before. haha

the nachos were ok, a lil lao hong actually (haha)... but the cheese was good!

thank cute Dennis!

Cafe De Amigo

Dinner was at Cafe de Amigo with Meixin....

the entrance....

its located at Funan IT Mall, unit 02-15.

the interior of the place....

we went for the set dinner ($42 per pax.. wif lotsa plus plus plus when u wana change items).

for starters, we went for the escargots ragout and the angels on horseback as per Lionel's recommendations.

the escargots ragout...

a closer up view...

the inside of the puff....

i think the use of puff was rather interesting. Taste wise i thought was just alright, pretty garlic-ky but not extraordinary.

the angels on horseback....

after a bite.....

also felt it was ok. not bad but not extraordinary.

soup wise, we went for the cream of potato and lobster bisque.

the cream of potato....

the cream of potato soup was pretty ok. they also haf a french onion soup.... probably should haf went for that.

the lobster bisque...

a pretty good portion of lobster meat...

the taste was alright. had quite a relatively stronger alcohol taste, in comparsion to the other lobster bisque i tried. But the prawny (or so my ah yee calls it, the hay gor) taste is not as strong. So i actually prefer the other types which i've tried.

for mains, having remember the wonderful pork chop we had from Perle Noire, we decided to go for the pork chop, secretly hoping for something close....

the pork chop was thinner den Perle Noire...

of coz, its not a fair comparison actually. the pork chop at Perle Noire is too fabulous. haha.. Cafe De Amigo's one is not bad i'd say... the sauce is nice... texture is alright.

the other mains we had was the tenderloin.....

Lionel actually highly recommended me their argentina tenderloin but they are out of it. only left wif the argentina sirloin so in the end, we went for the normal tenderloin.....

done medium rare....

it was oh so good! Tender! Mexin liked it as much as i did. and Meina and Aloy, i think its also the kind which u 2 will like!

for desserts, i went for the tiramisu....

the tiramisu is actually hard on the below...

somewhat like an ice cream. its not the type of tiramisu i'd like.

next up was the lemon souffle....

indeed, like what the menu wrote, impressive in presentation. we were both wow-ed by it!

but in terms of taste, it was again, average. not that its not nice though.. maybe im just not very into souffles. haha.. the back part of it kinda reminded me of the typical Hong Kong steamed egg though. the egg taste was pretty strong... i kinda liked that part.

Sunday, July 15, 2007

7-11 bao

Joseph bought me a bao from 7-11

Actually not much of a bao person but maybe coz im hungry and it was a thoughtful gesture from Joseph so heh.. the bao actually tasted quite good.

thank cute Joseph!

Krispy Kreme

After i got home, uncle sq came over to deliver krispy kreme! Ah yee's colleague Yoke Hai and his wifey came back from HK yday and brought some back for us! hee... ah yee specially requested for strawberry flavoured ones....

didnt find the strawberry one impressive though. most probably coz its not freshly out from the oven. in fact, found donut factory's strawberry flavoured donuts nicer.

Mr Beans

Dinner was at Mr Beans with the nuasters...

the sodas we ordered......

there was peach, passion fruit and grape... my fav is peach.. the passion fruit one was alright, the grape one .. didnt like it.. tastes like medicine to me!

and Kendi's smoothie.... some tropica smoothie ....

tastes good! kinda made our sodas faint in flavour after we tried her smoothie.

we shared a chicken dip stick....

loh gong zai was so funny.. he took a piece of the chips and he went.. " woah.. wat brand of chips do they use.. why so nice? " haha.. i like the chicken dip stick coz despite it being breast or is it minced meat, its so tender!

kendi and dar dar ordered the chicken chop....

the chicken chop i'd say is one of the signature dishes of mr beans. at least i feel it is coz most of my friends like the chicken chop here. pricing is reasonable as well. They all kinda liked the chicken chop.. dar liked the sauce, loh gong zai said its... ho geng ah.

i was in the mood for tomato sauce pasta so i went for their chef's pasta... comes wif ham and beef sauce.....

portion was HUGEee... taste was decent.. close to bland but still decent i guess.

andy ordered the pork chop under my request.. haha.. since we've already got 2 chicken chops on the table....

the pork chop was alright.. not totally tender but at least the bite he fed me was tender enuff. apparently dar and kendi didnt get the tender parts. hahaha

andy zai ordered the seafood pasta aglio olio style....

smelled so good when it arrived. we could all smell it. However, taste was too bland... would haf been better if its slightly saltier.

loh gong zai went for the lagsana....

it was a very very very small piece. haha.. and weirdly enuff, its more of a cream based pasta inside instead of the usual very tomato based sauce. loh gong zai said its kinda dry also.

dar also was in the mood for pizza so we ordered one to share...

seafood pizza. im generally not a very pizza person (except the spizza/papi kind)... but mr beans pizza looked good. i tried the toppings, was not bad.. dar helped me finish the crust. loh gong zai and dar dar gave their thumbs up for the pizza.

desserts, kendi and dar dar did the choosing.

Oreo cheesecake....

pretty good. not too sweet.

some chocolate cake...

again, not to sweet and the chocolate was just nice. comes wif a layer of crunchy biscuits like thingy... a lil hazelnut taste.. pretty good. dar and kendi liked this the best.

brownie wif ice cream....

forgot to inform the person we want it wif vanilla ice cream instead of chocolate. kinda find that it'd be better wif vanilla ice cream.

Thursday, July 12, 2007

O'Briens

Food was provided for the volunteer work lunch seminar. they ordered from O'Briens....

and i opted for the turkey with cranberry with white bread....

turned kinda soggy by the time the talk ended. Not very appetising for me. I think it'd taste better if its not soggy.

Wednesday, July 11, 2007

Hokkaido Food Fair @ Tampines Isetan

some of the things they are selling there (btw, in case if u're interested, the fair ends this sunday 15th July)...

baked sweet potato....

butter manju sponge cake in cream or redbean flavour....

kinda prefer the cream flavoured one.

fresh fish roe and some seasoned cuttlefish etc....

squid stuffed wif rice....

didnt find it very tasty.

some fish cake...

also pretty average in taste.

ramen....

$11 a bowl. the char siew cubes was good. the soup and noodles were alright. very expensive for a fair item.. in fact, many items sold at the fair were freaking expensive.

and they haf scallop candy!

And for my love of ah yee, i bought 2 packets to share wif her (though i still dun find it extraordinary)...

i bought those wif cheese. the bigger sized ones....

the smaller sized ones....

and Lionel, yes, i koe u love these too.. i promise if i meet u soon, i'll keep some for u.

And D, if u're reading this, maybe u'd wana go stock up again. haha

PS Cafe

Dinner, we went over to PS Cafe....

the walkway leading in to the place...

the restaurant....

i really love the whole design of the place.

the interior....

wanted to take more but was kinda stopped. they do not allow pictures of their premises to be taken. quite a pity.

the menu......

xiuping and boyfriend also came to join us for dinner.

Xiuping's lychee frizz....

sounds good but i didnt try coz i was down wif flu. didnt wana spread my germs. Xiuping said its not bad.

i ordered first coz i was starving. didnt manage to eat anything for the whole day. and food came at rocket speed.. its like i just ordered and the item arrived (amazing!).

i went for the beef, mushroom and bacon ragout ($24)....

its something like a stew...

the menu says its beef braised in red wine with field mushrooms, fresh oregano and rosemary served with spatzle dumplings, freshly grated pecorino cheese and topped with spinach leaves drizzled with white truffle oil. taste wise i'd say its good. i tried a couple of the other mains they ordered and i kinda think that my item is the best tasting one for tonight. the beef is tender and the sauce is good. Portion is good as well... reasonable for the price (reasonable coz i factored in the ambience of the place).

Bowl and Xiuping's boyfriend went for the Flamed Prawn ($20)....

the menu said its tiger prawns flamed with brandy, red shallot, pickled garlic, fresh green peppercorns, yellow teardrop and cheerry tometoes. Sweet basil, snow peas with a touch of cream and tossed in romano pecorino tortiglioni. I tried a lil of bowl's pasta. the cream sauce was good. was asking what Xiuping's boyfriend thought of it, he said taste was alright but he didnt think that was tiger prawns (haha) and that the portion was too small (he was still hungry.. lol).

lil bee ordered the rendang duck leg...

the duck...

well, it did have a very rendang taste... and maybe coz i aint exactly a rendang person, i didnt think much of it.

Ice ordered a fish and chips.....

never never never order this. i found the batter too thick and the fish not fresh.

Food wise, i guess gotta order the right thing but i heard that desserts here are really good. We didnt manage to get dessert though coz everyone was pretty full. The ambience of the place is really really good though.. great place to chill.

Azabu Sabo Hokkaido Ice-Cream

Bought the hokkaido ice-cream for Bowl, Ice and Kat to try....

the flavours they have available....

the server preparing the ice cream....

i only tried a mouthful of the green tea ice cream which was pretty good. Didnt try more coz i'm having cough+flu+sore throat (bad combi).

Sunday, July 08, 2007

Hanuta

We were talking when uncle ryan mentioned Hanuta and i got reminded that i just got a box today from Candy Empire....

the waffle wif chocolate....

First tried it at Perry's house some time ago. Heard from Jo that this is very popular amongst crew when they visit.. can't remember which country... they'll always buy this back. Glad that this can now be found in singapore.

Paulaner

After dinner, we decided to go for drinks at Paulaner. Bumped into Elyn, eekoon and a couple of her friends celebrating birthday. Happy birthday to blog owner of Comfort Food For The Empty Soul.

Coincidentally, also bumped into Adrian and his friends who were there to catch the F1 race together.

the drinks we ordered....

uncle sq had their lager....

ah yee and myself shared a strawberry magarita....

tastes great! and everyone was so attracted by how it was presented!

aunt nana's mango magarita....

idol's vodka lime....

which he commented tasted like lime juice. haha

and uncle joo's tequila sunrise....

didnt really try any of the other drinks coz i was not feeling very well, didnt wana spread my germs and risk the rest pressurising idol to issue MCs to them. LOL

Seoul Garden

The birthday girl (aunt nana) eventually chose Seoul Garden for dinner.

some of the cooked food sections....

the cooked food section had alot more items added on from my last visit. theres sushi, theres dim sum, theres even bee hoon and the typical fried stuff like french fries, chicken drumlets and crackers.

Uncle joo was our great chef...

check out the meat he cooked....

and uncle ryan's seafood platter... lol

which obviously he wasnt anywhere close to uncle joo.. lol

didnt take much pics... there were lotsa more food... desserts.. ice kacang, ice cream, etc...

Jia Xiang Sarawak Kuching Kolo Mee

Lunch was at Marina Square's Jia Xiang Sarawak Kuching Kolo Mee.

the interior of the place....

ordered the normal kolo mee....

and the bowl of wanton soup that came along....

overall, the noodles were alright. I've never had any other kolo mee to be able to make any comparison but i cant help but feel it kinda reminds me of wanton mee. The noodles were pretty springy though so its a good thing. Didnt exactly leave much of an impression on me but it is decent.. thats for sure.

Cartel

Dinner, we decided to go for Cartel since Jo-ann and myself were still full from Raja Ninja so we only wanted dessert. i was craving for the east side brownie stack!

my favourite (and extremely sinful) dessert from Cartel. Its warm brownie generously filled wif chocolate fudge and a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Simply fabulous! But the brownie today didnt taste as good as usual.

Jo-ann was very excited about her waffle ice cream as well. Our desserts were items that we could order w/o even referring to the menu! haha.. dats how much we like it.

for mains, Kendi ordered some thai spicy pasta that came wif seafood.....

it was pretty alright, decent i'd say.

loh gong zai ordered the oxtail stew again...

however, the stew this time didnt taste as good as our previous visit at the Siglap outlet which made us wonder if its the outlets that made a difference.

seeing the chicken chef salad on some other patron's table got Kendi interested so.....

heh. Also find their chicken chef salad very appealing to the eyes. and its also one of my preferred dishes. But one set back is sometimes the chicken is actually very cold.

Raku Ninja

Lunch was at Raku Ninja (citylink mall) with Jo-ann.....

the menu is pretty much of a piece of paper filled with words w/o any pictures. haha

i recall asking lionel aside from Shunjuu, which other place offers good preserved egg and tofu. Lionel highlighted to me that its available Raku Ninja. What i didnt realise is that they had it in both cold and fried tofu style.....

comparing the two, i personally prefer the cold tofu. Comparing this to shunjuu's, i kinda think that Shunjuu's one is better.

One good thing about Raku Ninja's menu is that they have quite a bit of finger food and side orders and pricing is rather affordable i'd say. We shared a fried chicken wing which was pretty alright....

we also shared a tori karage....

their tori karage is good! very crispy for the skin and very tender and juicy chicken parts.

soft shell crab.....

the soft shell crab was good as well. crispy and juicy on the inside. i quite liked it.

the chawanmushi.....

not to bad, has a couple of prawn cubes below.

Jo-ann and i also shared a charsiew ramen....

the charsiew was very nice! both jo-ann and myself agreed. the noodles wise, jo-ann felt it was good while i felt its too soft and tasteless.

Overall, the meal was good and pricing was really reasonable. Good place for gatherings too wif very comfy cushion seats. will be back!

Wan Tou Shek

Supper was at Wan Tou Shek with Dylan and Samuel.

Samuel and I ordered the chrysanthemum tea...

i like their chrysanthemum tea for its the kind with the herbal taste. and their portion is good as well.

the chicken feet....

which was not bad.

the deep fried sweet and sour fish maw....

i usually dun dare to take fish maw except for the one here. i think its really good! Samuel feels that its a little spicy.

some deep fried chee cheong fun thingy that Dylan ordered....

i found it just ok. Im not much of a chee cheong fun (wif fillings) kinda person. Im more of the normal typical chee cheong fun wif no fillings wif sweet sauce and lotsa sesame seeds sauce kinda person!

and of coz, dim sum always comes wif har gao.....

and siew mai....

the har gao and siew mai this time round tastes much better den my memory serves me. Meaning its much nicer.

the kong ba pao....

the taste was not wat i expected it to be. there was some spices in the kong ba that is not what i'll like... but i think some others will like it... i duno how to describe that spice.. cant remember where i tasted it.. so maybe u can try it for urself. I do, however, like it for the size and the thinness of the bun.

Dylan and Samuel shared the paper chicken....

didnt manage to take a picture of it but its chicken wings inside. the guys had quite a hard time removing it from the paper and they said they were quite disappointed by it.

xiao long bao....

w/o the juices. haha..

song fish head!

one of my fav fishes from this place. Only available for eat in. the fish head has tons of fish bones inside. Like the bean paste on top.

the spare ribs....

pretty tender, pretty good.

deep fried wanton...

filled wif prawns. pretty good.

Ajisen Ramen

After our games, ah yee, uncle sq, ooi and i proceeded to parkway for ajisen as i was craving for their ramen.

uncle sq and ah yee ordered the set so they chose the sides of white fish and prawn mayo which was not bad. i seperately ordered the ruan gu...

love the ruan gu! its quite tender!

and our ramen....

they had char siew, pai ku and miso char siew. the miso char siew reminds me of fermented tofu. haha.. not bad.. but i love my ton toro raman. the soup, the noodles (love the texture) and the melt in ur mouth pork slices. Yummy!

First read about this place from Meixin's blog and it reminded me of this ice cream parlour that used to operate near my primary school along tanjong katong road.. most prob students from tkgs, tkss, chung cheng, haig girls' school and dunman high would remember. It allows us to choose items like oreo cookies, nuts and other items to blend into a machine to create ur own flavours. Can't remember the name though but its definitely more than 10 years back.

Anyway, back to ice cream chef! The different toppings u can choose to mix into your basic ice cream flavour.....

From cashew nuts to oreos to froot loops, to honey stars, to skippy, to mars, marshmallows, to kit kat, to loakers, to kinder bueno and many more!

and as for the basic ice cream flavour, they have quite a range.. i'll steal them from the webby...

when we got there, most of the flavours were out (business was good! haha)..

i chose the milk tea flavour (yes lea, gotta bring u there!)

and i chose kinder bueno with cashew nuts as my mix-ins. the friendly person proceeded to help me mix it in....

oki.. and the person was actually very nice to haf allowed me to haf a go at the mixing also! hehe....

but he said its coz there were no other patrons so pls dun sabo me by insisting on getting them to let you do ur own mixing. heh..

my creation was yummy! Dylan went for the watermelon wif marshmallow which i thought was just alright (hehe)... and i was greedy, went to get another serving... vanilla wif rochero and peanut butter.... still prefer my first creation!

overall a rather fun experience.

Cafe Oliv

I met up wif Dylan and we headed over to Cafe Oliv. Lionel had recommended this place to me.

Cafe Oliv
220 East Coast Road
63443114
11.30am to 12mn daily
Sunday: 8am to 12mn

the interior of the place....

their menu....

Ordered a soft shell crab as per Lionel's recommendation. Only $4.90...

And Lionel, i found the salted egg that you said was missing!

u see that white piece in between? haha.. Anyway, the soft shell was alright.. i didnt like it as much as Lionel did. Perhaps i was expecting it to be slightly bigger.

and the star recommendation by Lionel was the Pepper Grilled Tenderloin Fillet in Foccacia ($12.90)...

a closer up view....

the steak looks bigger in the picture.. not saying that its small in reality. Overall, its pretty alright.. unlike Lionel, i've got no basis of comparison though.

we also shared a Seafood Linguine in Thai Cream Sauce ($9.90)...

for that price, for 2 big mussels, 2 big prawns, i'd say its very very worth it. Taste wise, i didnt find it extremely appealing to me though.

Overall, the experience at Cafe Oliv was pretty alright. Would definitely be back again to try out other dishes. Service was good, pricing was great!
