Xin Wang

Met up with Kor and Geraldine at Siglap's Xin Wang.

i was full already so i ordered a milk tea...

and i ordered a thick toast to share....

its the one wif butter and condensed milk.. very nice! crispy on the outside and pretty sweet... i like!

kor ordered the pork chop baked pasta....

not too bad.

we were actually quite full but kor was tempted by the pics on the menu so we shared a dessert.....

its some red bean ice kacang like thingy. not too bad.. quite sweet.. the ice cream mixed wif the red bean was quite nice. its pretty huge so highly suggested for sharing.. 3 of us couldnt finish half of it ... haha

Blooie's Roadhouse

Dinner wif Jo-ann and Yonghua.

We drove over to the Blooie's at Siglap....

the interior......

We ordered a fish fingers to share.....

an individual piece of fish finger....

its not bad but i kinda prefer the typical frozen fish fingers.

and when jo-ann's fish and chips came, we were disappointed that its the same fish!

the fries was those spiced fries which was not bad.

Yong Hua and i both ordered the black pepper chicken.....

a closer up view....

like my previous visit, the black pepper chicken was great! the sauce was good and the chicken was tender... nice!

Out Of The Pan

I went over to Raffles City to meet up with the seafoodies and rachie for dinner. This month we planned 2 gatherings. Decided to haf it at Out Of The Pan, basement 1 of Raffles City. Gotta thank lil bee for trying to help me get reservations but too bad they dun do reservations.....

the menu......

there wasnt really anything much to choose from actually. I went for the set ($18plus) which comes wif salad and drink and i shared the set wif Rachie.

We chose the potato salad....

the sauce is a lil sourish but its not the typical sour cream kinda taste so i dun quite like the potato salad. the type of potato is very good though.

Ordered the smoked ham crepe. Choice of crepe.. i think they had some white and duno wat and sun-dried tomato.. we went for the sun-dried tomato....

a closer up view....

it was pretty good! Lea liked it.. i liked it as well but we all agreed the price was too steep.

Drink wise, had their iced tea.....

their iced tea is super good! its got a lil of earl grey taste and its really really good.

Inc Weddings

I received a delivery from Di at my office today.

I koe Di chose pink coz she koes i like pink! so thoughtful! thank cute!

another item was an individual cupcake by its own which she has already informed me saying that is for me!

as for the pink box, inside it is 9 pieces of beautiful (almost too beautiful to be eaten) white chocolate cupcakes!!

Oh Di! haha.. cupcakes specially personalised for me! Thank cute so much! I really love them.. its such a sweet and thotful gift..

i had the cupcakes later at night wif the seafoodies. its got white chocolate which i kinda prefer to chocolate. hee... Di ordered them from Inc. Weddings and they even dedicated an entry to me!

http://incweddings.blogspot.com/2007/05/girl-who-likes-pink.html

so sweet!

Melt (Oriental Hotel)

Dinner with Yan, Ivy (Yan's colleague) and Sorina @ Melt - The world cafe... its located at level 2 of The Oriental Hotel....

Buffet!

the chilled seafood....

theres baby lobsters, mussels, oysters, prawns, scallops and clams! I thot the clams were big and fresh!

the thai section....

the tandoori section which is kinda the signature section of the cafe....

(which we didnt actually appreciate.. ha)

and the sushi and sashimi....

some prawn mee.....

the desserts.....

ice ice kacang!!

overall, we were kinda disappointed by the variety offered. Food wise, overall the tastes were alright.

I gotta say thank u to Yan and Sorina for the treat and for being so you xin. Especially Yan for making the arrangements and for remembering. So sweet la her. and with this, it marks the impromptu debute of Junie's birthday celebrations for 2007! ha

Gloria Jean's

Lil bee and i kinda shopped around a bit before taking seats at Gloria Jean's to rest...

our items.....

i had the white chocolate coconut. Its very coconut-y and there are bits of white chocolate as u drink.

lil bee had some white chocolate (or was it vanilla) latte... smelled so good and tasted so fragrant! oh.. but gotta be careful not to add too much sugar coz its pretty sweet by itself.

lil bee also ordered a macademia cake to share and he loved it. there was a generous layer of macademia nuts on top and we were trying to figure out what the sticky thing in between was. lil bee said its kaya and he said its quite creative to use kaya. haha...

drink was on lil bee... thank cute!

Long John Silvers

Feeling not very satisfied with my pasta, i noticed this fish fingers thingy on the Long John Silvers menu....

ha.. i had to get it. Shared it wif lil bee.. it was pretty good... the batter was not too thick and more importantly, the fish was good. it was not dry. i like it.

Pasta Mania

Was contemplating wat to eat when i saw pasta mania having a promo... upon presentation of Lido's ticket studs, pasta comes wif a free drink and soup. So i decided since its been a long while i had pasta mania, decided to go for the al funghi...

it was edible but the cream sauce got very gerlard after awhile so i didnt finish it. the soup.. well, free one, mai hiam (its not nice).

Muji Maple Cream Crackers

Yan was so sweet, she got us maple cream crackers from Hong Kong!

the maple cream crackers.....

According to Yan, this is not available in Singapore's Muji. She bought them from HK this time. Previously, her friend got it for her from Japan. And, as soon as she took it out, Sorina was raving about how nice the crackers taste and how the previous time when Yan gave her a pack, her mum finished it and has been raving and bugging sorina about the crackers.....

i tried the crackers a few days later and thinking that high expectations might just spoil the experience but the crackers were truly GOOD! Its sweet and its got sugar bits on the crackers....

the cream inside is maple taste and even after eating, ur fingers would smell so good!

The Caffe Bar

Dinner at The Caffe Bar. Christopher Lum came to join dear dear and me for dinner.

I had the seafood aglio olio.....

its pretty spicy but its yummy. The quantity of seafood, i thot was good as well.

Dear dear ordered the duck confit pasta because i said the duck confit was good.....

but turns out that dear dear said the pasta was not nice.. the shredded duck was kinda dry.

Christopher took on my recommended and went for the duck confit....

he pretty much liked it. heh.. dear dear commented that its like eating pork knuckle. haha

Dinner was a treat from dear dear... hehe.. thank cute.

Delifrance

Lunch with Junting. Saw Sarah at Delifrance and she offered to give us a treat! So lunch was on Sarah.

Junting and i both ordered lasagne... beef lasagne..

it was overall pretty alright. Decent considering its delifrance.

McDonalds - Teppanyaki Chicken Burger

Saw the advert on tv and heard ferlyn mention abt the shaker fries on her blog so it was mcdonalds for lunch.

the new teppanyaki chicken burger...

the inside....

chicken was chicken thigh (i think, coz its tender.. hehe.. i like!)... taste was not too bad.. soft buns which was ok wif me coz i dun like it too hard.

Gobi

I went over to katong mall. I remember reading about this other cake shop at katong mall but duno why the few times i was here, the only one i saw was that Awfully chocolate cake shop so i went over to ask the security guard who directed me to the ulu 3rd floor.

Gobi....

Disturbingly Delightful Desserts.....! Hmm... ha...

the shop was also pretty delicately decorated....

most of their items would hafta be pre-ordered but they do haf items available for sale too..

i ordered a set of 12, priced at ard $20 over.

Nicely packaged in a pink transparent bag and a elegantly decorated box!

ta da~

a close up of the individual desserts.....

and more!

they all taste as good as they look. I shared them later in the evening wif ah yee and uncle sq and each bite ah yee would go.. " Mmmm.. hen hao chi.. na li mai de? " (ie. Mmm.. very delicious.. where did u get them? ) haha..

Especially the macroons... oh so good! sorry, kinda lazy to describe them one by one.. heh.. check out their webby at www.gobi.com.sg !

Astons

I went for lunch at Aston's. Ordered a extracut prime ribeye....

went for medium rare.....

for that price, for that quantity, i've no complains!

The New Harbour Cafe

Dinner at The New Harbour Cafe.
114 Tanjong Pagar Road

we shared chicken wings....

i rem meina mentioned that their chicken wings are quite nice but i dun quite like the spice they use. the rest found it ok though.

Jo-ann ordered the chicken salad.....

i thot it was pretty nice. the chicken went pretty well with the lettuce.. or is it lettuce? ha.. anyway just felt health-IER (not healthy but healtier).

i had the crackling roast pork....

i rem Lina ordering it the last time we were there and it was pretty good! Considering im not a roast pork person but this one is really good. Dar agreed that its good as well. and one thing about the sides i like is the vege they provide.. duno the name but its that small round balls (look like cabbage) vege. heh

Dar had the mixed grill....

comes with sausage, bacon, pork chop and lamb chop! Quite a combination.

Whatever

Jo-ann came to look for us and she bought us drinks. We requested for the new drin

Whatever.....

COOL! There's whatever and anything.

Whatever is non-carbonated.. and inside can contain either apple tea, lemon tea, green tea (etc., i think).

Anything, they say is carbonated and wait to be surprised for any carbonated drinks. Cant wait to try the other flavours!

Wild Rocket

Lunch with Dar back at Wild Rocket!

the complimentary bread....

we shared a soft shell crab....

another view....

i rem reading from lionel's blog saying its pretty good. I found it not bad.. the batter was not thick and i can really taste the crab meat. but there wasnt much roe. Its been such a long time since i actually get to taste a nice, meaty and full of roe soft shell crab.. anyone knows where i can find it?

dar ordered a duck confit....

the duck confit was not bad... crispy.. the sauce was a little too sweet though. The side was some kind of carrot cake like thingy which dar liked.

recalling that the crab meat linguini was good and dar was pretty hungry, we decided to share the linguini as well.....

somehow the linguini today seemed to lack the punch dat i had the other day.

also, last but not least, the wild rocket burger....

another view of it....

the burger cut open..

not sure if its coz we left the burger to the last or if its really like wat lionel said, theres a difference in the burger because the burger today didnt taste as juicy or as great as the last 2 times i was there. The last time lionel was there, he compared his burger against the pics i took, he insisted theres a difference. Not exactly certain theres a difference but the one this time round certainly was not as juicy.

Peng Lai Ge

dinner was at Peng Lai Ge (Taiwan Delights) at Katong..

i had the crispy chicken....

i think i've raved enuff about their crispy chicken.. tender drums and thigh meat, great spices.. really good especially when hot.

also had a lu rou fan....

great sauce, juicy meat. cheap and good.

Sun With Moon

Dinner wif Vreniz at Sun With Moon - Chijmes.

i brought vreniz there because she likes pork and i thot the Chijmes outlet would also haf the pork belly but sadly, like the outlet at The Central, both dun haf!

Vreniz ordered a Crab meat, spinach and egg on hot plate ($14.80)...

this item was just ok. Pretty much like wat it sounds. The crab meat was ok but i found it kinda expensive.

we shared the foie gras on lettuce ($18.50)...

a closer up view....

the portion was pretty ok and Vreniz liked the foie gras instantly.

and in replacement of the pork belly, i ordered the pork cheeks ($12.80)....

its bascially pieces of thinly sliced pork... not tender, kinda dry... very disappointing. i miss the pork belly!

also ordered this triple maguro rice....

comes wif minced tuna and maguro sashimi. Ordered this thinking it would be like waraku's.. i was disappointed yet again. Somehow this one just didnt work on me. The taste was just not there. Strange how its just a simple dish yet it tastes so different.

of coz, we were not full so we end up ordering more.. this foie gras and beef thingy ($30 over)....

its layered wif beef below, wif apple, foie gras n some chips. the beef was chewy, too chewy and all the beef taste was totally overpowered by the sweet brown teriyaki sauce. The foie gras was good though. Price was damn expensive. Not worth it if u ask me.

den we also had a oyster, spinach and bacon ($12.80)...

a close up....

the oysters were not bad. one of the more reasonable orders for today.

Desserts wise, we shared a desserts trio ($10)....

comes with the sesame pudding, green tea ice cream and mango pudding.....

i know the sesame pudding is some signature dessert. its pretty alright in my view. comparatively, i preferred the tofu cheesecake.

the green tea ice cream was also not bad.

the mango pudding i didnt try coz i dun like mango.

overall, i was quite disappointed wif the meal. Having returned to Sun With Moon 3 times hoping to find the pork belly unsuccessfully is such a frustrating feeling. And the menu of the one at Chijmes makes me feel dat theres nothing i really wana order from the menu. As in nothing really interests me... and for the few dat may interest me, its freaking expensive.

Botak Jones

Lunch with Ping jie jie. Went over to Clementi's Botak Jones. They now haf this counter by the side to take ur orders....

i ordered a double botak burger topped wif an egg....

i didnt haf the meal so it didnt come wif anything else.

the double patty....

pretty thick....

while many people may think its good, i found it ok. somehow the taste of the beef patty just didnt impress me but of coz, its decent. Pretty filling also.

ping jie jie had their cajun chicken...

A closer up view...

ping jie jie found it pretty alright. As for me, haha.. breast meat just doesnt work for me. taste wise was pretty alright.

our 2 items add up to ard $17. Actually wanted to try their steak but it seems pretty exp so i gave up the idea.

Krispy Kreme

Meixin went to HK and she got me Krispy Kreme!

My box of Krispy Kreme.. mine! mine! all mine!!

The different flavours....

a closer up of the different flavours....

the one with the white topping was the first one i tried. shared it wif junting. Its white frosting with toffee fillings inside...

the doughnut is ultrasoft! Was teasing Junting saying.. " how, got the feeling of first love? " lol

the one topped wif nuts i actually had it the next day, shared wif ping jie jie... despite it being day 2, it was still really soft.. and inside was caramel! Pretty sweet though.

didnt try the round one wif the topping.. think its some caramel topping.

the other 2 flavours...

the round one wif caramel topping had custard inside.. shared dat wif mum.

the chocolate round ring one was not eaten by me.

the original glaze one was MMmmm.... i kinda like original glazed donuts. Simple and nice!

i placed the donuts right there to motivate myself at work....

Meixin, thanks for making one of my dreams come true! ha

Cupcake Momma

Before i left house today, i got a call from Sorina asking me to go look for her when i get to the office coz she wants to borrow my camera. It turned out that she wants it to take pics of.....

CUPCAKES! SO PRETTY!!! its Dila, Stephanie and Susan's last day. They are from CCU (another unit) so they got farewell gifts for everyone from their department. Everyone got a personalised cupcake!!

the 3 peeps who were leaving had slightly more special designs....

another pic...

SO PRETTY!

and u koe, sorina was so nice! I said i wana try it too so before she left, she came over to share her cupcake wif me! the cupcakes are from cupcake momma. http://www.cupcake-momma.net/

the cupcake doesnt only look nice. it tastes good as well! The icing is sweet and the cake was yummy! Its chocolate flavoured! We shared the cupcake.. i want more! ha... so exciting.

Yummy Steamy

Dinner with Junting at Paya Lebar Sing Post food court.

i had Yummy Steamy. They sell mainly steamed rice and soup....

i ordered a ginseng chicken soup set...

the soup looks rather different from the picture. the soup in the picture looks much more clear. the soup was just alright, rather sweet but i like the minced pork wif salted fish. but price was quite expensive! $9!!

Broth

Lil bee had been raving to me about the new menu Steven came up wif for this month and its got me drooling and drooling..!

the interior....

their menu....

the words are actually written by the boss, Steven, himself. Very nice handwritting i'd say!

we were first served the warm bread and butter....

they used to serve just white bread.. now there seems to be some spices added. a nice change. but the butter doesnt seem to be as milky as the last time, wonder if they changed their butter. ha!

and we shared a daily broth ($10)....

it was clam chowder... creamy and good with good amt of clams and carrots.

we also shared a crab cocktail with capsicum tomato reish and avocado ($18)....

nicely presented, its real crab meat on top of a tomato based sauce wif avocado cubes... lea quite liked it. i think its not bad (i like real crab meat). Its got spices in it.

pork and anchovy fritters with apple chilli and onion salad ($18)...

the round thing is like some meatball kinda thing. the below is some salad kinda thing. while it was alright, it was pretty forgettable. haha

and of coz, one of my favourite is the baby spinach and portobello mushroom salad raspberry dressing ($17)....

another view of it....

this spinach and portobello thingy really just gets to me. Lea upon first taste didnt understand why i think its really nice (just like my first time) but after a few more bites, she agreed its good. The raspberry sauce is refreshing and the spinach and portobello is SO FRESH. the combi is just wonderful.

for mains, lea had a Mr Dickon's macaroni baked w cauliflower & peas ($26)...

haha.. look at the display and shape of this whole thing! How does this remind u of macaroni in any way? lol

another view....

opening it up....

and when it was about to be finished....

its really really nice!! Lea exclaimed upon first mouth.. " junie.. u gotta try this! its so good! " haha.. the whole thing is like a mash and its got the cheesy taste on the top.. nice! and in case u're wondering, why Mr Dickson's? Mr Dickson is their regular and he always orders this so Steven named this dish after him. Wat a warm and personalised move!

and hee hee hee.. i got a SPECIAL, all thanks to lil bee. I was allowed to do a special, where theres the pork chop together wif the grilled lobster, scallop and prawns.....

another view.....

and another view....

lil bee specially helped me request for hollandise sauce. The pork chop at Broth never never fails me. Im usually not a pork chop person (pretty obvious i love my beef and chicken better). But the pork chop at Broth is always raved to me by lil bee and it never fails to deliver. Even lea is not a pork person agrees. The doneness of the pork is just great. its tender and succulent.

the seafood (lobster, scallops and prawns) are big, fresh and quite a mouthful. thank god for the special coz i suspect if its only the scallop, lobster and prawns, it wun fill me. hee.. so, thanks lil bee!

Lionel ordered the Beef fillet steak w king island blue cheese, crispy mushrooms & shiraz ($32) ....

love the blue cheese sauce... but haha.. blue cheese doesnt work well on everyone. Lea didnt really like it while Lionel and i are blue cheese lovers. Lionel felt that the blue cheese overpowered everything on the dish while i thot it was just great. the mashed potato had this alcohol taste most probably the shiraz. the portion of the steak was pretty good as well. Lionel requested for it to be done medium rare and it was done just nicely! juicy steak.. Mmm!

after the meal, before our desserts arrived, lil bee came over wif a pot of tea...

haha.. it was for me! he placed it on the table and i asked.. " for me ah? " haha.. den he replied.. " can u guess what tea is it? " i replied... " english breakfast! coz thats wat i had when we were out the last time! " such a sweetheart la my brother!

and i warned lea and lionel to save some stomach for the desserts. after reading so much about the sticky date pudding from my blog, they just had to try it!

they both agreed the sticky date ($12) is good. the combination of the sour cream wif the caramel and the sticky date pudding was simply divine!

another dessert i recommended was the supernova pavlova ($14)....

lionel commented that this thing tastes better den it looks.

Man Jia Le

Man Jia Le.....

the stall....

coincidentally, while deciding, we both had the same 2 drinks in mind so we decided to share....

the kung fu milk tea (wat a power name)...the milk tea was very rich and thick. Not bad... the other drink was honey grass jelly.. refreshingly good.

Marutama Ramen

I was craving for marutama ramen and i managed to get Ailian to join me tonight.

i ordered beer ($7)....

and i ordered the pork belly as sides ($7)....

Another view....

it was so so good! tender and meaty... taste was just right!

our noodles.....

i had wanted to try the prawn paste sauce but they ran out of it so i decided to try something different, the seven kind of nuts soup base....

apparently it came wif the chicken meatballs.

i decided i prefer the original chicken soup based better. dun quite koe how to describe the taste of both soup though. u may wana try it urself.

but one thing im sure is overall, i much prefer marutama's ramen (be it the soup, the noodles or the ingredients) to Ken's. Of coz, thats just my personal preference.

the char siew.....

i've previously raved about their char siew and i shall do it again. Its so soft! and its the best japanese raman i've ever had!

and the egg....

was ok but still not as fluid as i hoped it would be.

ailian had the chicken ramen wif the kakuni....

a closer up view....

ailian agrees dat the ramen is good. It gives a melt-in-the-mouth kinda texture she said. haha

Sun with Moon

I headed to Sun with Moon simply because i wanted to haf that pork belly i had the other time i was there. But the sadest thing was, after i sat down, they informed dat for that timin (ard 3 pm), they do not offer dinner menu. ARGH!

i ended up ordering a stir fried pork noodles...

a closer up view....

the pork slices were nice.. but thin.. but still nice.. but i was craving for those succulent thicker pieces! argh

also ordered a soup shiratama.....

its actually chocolate mochi filled wif white bean pasted filled wif cream anglaise....

the chocolate mochi was pretty nice at first bite but gradually it didnt taste as good. the cream anglaise was like some milky sweet yet not very sweet kinda sauce. overall quite an uncommon dessert though.

Sunday, May 13, 2007

Pine Court

My parents celebrated mothers' day at Pine Court and they ta bao for me!

the pine court takeaway...

there was sharks fins....

very very generous serving. the fins were thick and the soup was somewhat creamy. Never quite tasted sharks fins soup like this. Its pretty nice.

Peking duck.....

maybe coz its already cold by the time they bought it back, its not nice anymore. But of coz, its not a fair judge coz its packed home.

some kinda fish...

this fish was pretty good. the sauce was pretty tasty.

the vegetable wif abalone....

must have been expensive, too bad im not an abalone person.

the seafood noodles....

somewhat bee hoon like. dun quite like it.

the dessert was some yam and sweet potato thingy....

didnt quite like it. not sure if theres almond in the soup so i didnt finish this.

Saturday, May 12, 2007

Dragonfly

the nuasters ordered food....

only tried the meatballs and the top shells. the meatball was ok.. kinda dry. the top shell was super spicy!

Friday, May 11, 2007

Shimbashi Soba

I kinda suggested dinner at Shimbashi Soba (coz i thot wun be expensive and i've not tried it before)....

this is the entrance of the place....

there is usually a very long queue outside.

the tamago....

not bad... nicely done..

sushi balls....

very cute! we shared and it was ok.. not fantastic but edible.

also had the karage chicken...

quite a big portion i'd say. tastes alright but we've had better.

for mains, i had the cold soba wif duck and egg....

the soba was pretty good.. delightfully chilled. the duck was alright.. done medium i think.. the rest of the girls found it too raw looking. haha

as for sonia, she ordered the set....

a close up of the items....

hers looks more wu hua, comes wif salmon sashimi, fried chicken (or was it fish) and sweet and sour pork. didnt find the sides nice actually.. very very average. the noodles were alright. comparatively, i kinda preferred my noodles.

den for desserts, they had quite a selection. The pictures reminded me of that Kyotosabo Ajiteh. I ordered one of their dessert to share...

sadly its not as nice as Kyotosabo Ajiteh's. The pink and green mochi like thingy were not even close to Kyotosabo Ajiteh's. but the transparent jelly was pretty yummy though! Crabby agrees!

TCC

met up wif lil bee at citylink.. we went to tcc....

the place...

the drinks we ordered....

he had a latte while i had my good old english breakfast tea.. comes with 2 mini cookies each and their cookies taste so good! so nutty and smells good too!

lil bee ordered some steak sandwich...

a close up of the steak....

i stole a bite, was not bad.. didnt try the bread though (coz it looks hard to me)...

i ordered the beef mooza tofu....

its a layer of tofu topped wif a layer of melted cheese and some minced beef....

while it was alright.. taste is rather chinese... but i didnt really like it.

One thing i noticed was that the staff there are very aggressive with getting patrons to order more items... which can be a good or bad thing i guess.

Thursday, May 10, 2007

KFC - Meltz

I got sorina to help me buy my dinner back. i had the new meltz from kfc...

not nice! it felt like a rojak of cheese, nachos, chicken and duno wat weird sauce. didnt like it at all and its a mess to eat it.

Wednesday, May 09, 2007

Noodle House Ken

after work, arranged to meet dar at Orchard Plaza to search for the reknowned Noodle House Ken. After i posted that entry on the Marutama Ramen on my food blog, quite a no. of people have kinda asked me to do a comparison against Ken and also i've got people responding to rave about Ken. Got me so excited to wana give it a try.....

its located at level 1 of Orchard Plaza. We took seats on a seperate inside section....

Their menu...

pretty similiar to Marutama... a rather compact menu list.

we shared a gyoza....

a close up of the fillings here....

the gyoza was not fantastic in my view. it was just ok.. pretty average.

den it was the raman... i kinda raved about it to dar after having the impression that its really good so instead of our usual practice of ordering different items, we both ordered the ramen. We both had the char siew ramen with an egg.....

the egg... i was told by lionel when he had it, it was semi liquid (oOoo!) but ours was.......

i mean its still ok.. but not wat i expected. Maybe its just inconsistency.

den the noodles.....

it vaguely reminds me of the yellow noodles we usually haf for fish ball noodles. It didnt go well on me. As for dar, she commented that she preferred Ajisen's to this ... which i kinda agree. i rem the first time i went wif lionel, i was kinda impressed by the soup and noodles that made me crave for it for the next couple of days. Ken's didnt have dat kinda effect on me.

and the char siew.....

i remember someone commented on my blog after my Marutama entry that the char siew here is the best he's ever had... i guess its really to each his own. i found the char siew here somewhat similiar to the usual char siew which is why i was never really into the japanese char siew. Bottom line is, i much prefer Marutama's char siew which was softer. But of coz, this is just a personal preference. im sure Ken's supporters have their own reasons for liking Ken's version. i mean, taste IS subjective.

oh.. and thinking that maybe the best char siew could be the side order char siew, we decided to give it another try.....

its somewhat cold.. with chilled beansprouts below. While its ok.. .. well, its just ok.

Ramen is typically at around $12 per bowl over here.. i didnt koe how much was the meal coz dar treated. thanks dar! its relatively cheaper den Marutama .. and its also true its got lotsa japanese patrons .. so maybe it really is good, authentic ramen which we both failed to appreciate.

We did see some people having their char siew rice which did look pretty delectable! *regret*.. should have ordered different items to try!

Cartel

Lunch was at Siglap Cartel. I had beef lasagne...

not bad... pretty filling. very generous wif the sauce!

Sun With Moon

Dinner today is to be at Sun with Moon Wheelock....

Meixin has kinda said she quite likes this place (the Chijmes outlet) so decided to do dinner here together.

i was early so while waiting, was taking pics.

the interior....

the very comfy sofa seats....

its super comfy! its probably the most comfy restaurant seats ever!

We had the Broiler Beef...

one side looks cooked while the other looks raw....

and its served semi cold. didnt find this very nice. while its not lousy, there was not much taste.

den theres the grilled pork belly wif walnut sauce ($12.80)....

a closer up view...

after one bite...

its GOOD. after one bite, i told Meixin.. " erm.. u take fatty parts? " ... Meixin replied.. " wo zui xi huan "... and i replied in a very still tone.. " den ni kuai dian chi "... meixin replied ... " why? " i replied.. " tai hao chi le! " ie. its fabulous! from the surface, u totally cannot see the fats! Also, like Meixin said, every bite u can feel the sound of biting into the meat... oh so good!

Salmon sashimi...

avocado wif soft shell roll....

a closer up view....

while the rolls are ok, i didnt find it particularly nice especially since i feel dat i cant quite taste the soft shell crab. and this dish was quite filling. haha

den theres the potato and cheese hakata fry ($7.80)...

a closer up view....

after my first bite, i felt the cheese ooze out and theres that long strand of cheese as i pulled it out of my mouth. so when Meixin took her bite, i quickly whipped out my camera and.....

There u go! haha

its pretty good. a little saltish on the surface but i like it. pretty soft and cheesy on the inside.

den theres the golden mushroom wrapped in beef slice and the scallop...

the golden mushroom wrapped in beef slices...

the golden mushrooms are darn chewy! so hard to bite them off!

can u imagine i was eating and meixin was talking to me and i was stuck in the same position for a long time coz i was trying hard to bite the numerous golden mushrooms into two....

and Meixin suddenly stopped talking about watever she was talking about and den she asked me... " hen nan yao shi ma? " hahahhaa.. and she quickly whipped out my camera and did the same ting i did to her earlier....

a close up of the scallops...

the scallop was really good! tasty and big and fresh!

there was also the chicken and broccoli curry oven yaki ($10.80)....

served on a hot plate over a flame...

the broccoli cheese....

the curry smells strong but doesnt haf a very strong smell. the broccoli was so soft! the rest of the items (chicken and potato) were not bad.

also ordered a prawn wif rice and seaweed dish....

a closer up view...

We were so fulll we merely finished the prawns. was quite nice.. soft on the inside, the right texture.

and although we were really full, i just had to order their tofu cheesecake! Im really curious to know how a tofu cheesecake would taste like.

the cheesecake came in a really delicate presentation....

initially, we thot that the wooden thing has a lid on to... its only when we pulled up the box dat we realised its opened up like this.....

the cheesecake....

its really quite good! not the slimy kind of cheesecake.. the texture is close of that of a cheesecake and a pudding. the biscuit layer below is so good... great combi. meixin said she can taste the tofu but i cant really taste it. its good anyways!

Dinner came up to around $95 (inclusive of a discount of.. cant rem how much coz meixin had the coupon)

Wang Ji Curry Puffs

Blk 1015 Geylang East Central.

I saw this Wang Ji Crispy Curry Puff...

i think i vaguely recall an anonymous blog reader leaving a tag on my tagboard asking me to check this place out.

the boxes....

apparently their puffs are all hand made......

i bought 2....

the potato chicken and black pepper chicken....

i'd say its similiar to A1 curry puffs. The fillings is quite juicy. Not bad!

Scallop Candy

ah yee and msged me earlier saying shes got the scallop candy at home! *EXCITED* and i made her promise to leave at least ONE for me!

the scallop candy....

ok, sadly, after all that raves about this candy, i seriously dun find it dat fantastic. it tastes abit like cuttlefish.. but its less salty, slightly sweet after taste... haha.. but i koe alot of people out there love it. ok la, sorry, i've got bad taste can? lol

Baguette The Viet Inspired Deli

i also bought something which i've been meaning to get from this other stall... Baguette....

yes, the vietnam rolls....

filled wif noodles and prawns and those usual leaves they put inside.....

Actually im quite weird.. i like these kinda spring rolls but i dun like those typical leaves they put inside.. u koe those wif that really strong taste.. i'd prefer if they put in some 'normal' vege. haha.. but anyway, their rolls were quite nice and the sauce was pretty good as well.

Chippy's British Takeaway

While i was getting the chippy cheese sausage home for dad, mum and ah yee, i also got one for lea coz she said she's never tried it.....

her response to it was.... " SHIOK "... and she hoped it was never ending. haha

Ya Kun

Lea wanted her usual dosage of interesting drinks (milk tea, iced tea, green tea) so we headed to Ya Kun....

And lea ordered a kaya toast to share...

i was so full and lea made me finish one piece. haha.. but it was good. So far, Ya kun's still my fav toast coz of the thinly sliced bread..!

Wild Rocket

Pre-celebrated Mothers' Day @ Wild Rocket.

as usual, we were first served the complimentary bread...

the bread today is much better. its served warm and the taste was stronger... haha.. just better den my previous visit!

we ordered the soup of the day - cream of cauliflower ($8)...

didnt find the soup really impressive. i mean, it was alright but.... well, maybe because its cauliflower. the toppings was rather special thou.. i think its roe.

we also had a pan-seared tuna wild rocket salad ($10.80).....

a closer up view.....

i was telling mum that the wild rocket is the same vege thats used on Papi's pizza (which mum also loves).. the tuna .. well, i've never really had pan-seared tuna before to tell if its done well but i'd say i dun find it particularly nice. Overall, i liked the salad thou coz i like the wild rockets. hehe

for mains, dad ordered a smoked salmon with over-easy eggs on foccacia ($15.50)....

a closer up view....

well, actually initially we didnt realise that its bread so in the end, we kinda ordered another mains for dad and end up sharing this. It was not bad ... reminds me of the eggs benedict. dad liked the eggs... but i dun think i'd order this again. I mean, not because its not good.. just dat they haf better things over here.. haha

the wild rocket burger ($17.80).....

a closer up view.....

and i just had to show u how juicy it is......

need i say more? its my FAVOURITE BURGER! to hear me rave about it, read here.

and for dad, i ordered the crabmeat linguini in chilli tomato sauce ($18.80)....

a closer up view...

after trying a mouth of it, i thot to myself, .... " omg, wat am i getting myself into? " .. haha.. why? coz i already haf enuff things i crave for at wild rocket (the burger and the seafood crustacean oil spaghetti), i dun need another item to get me craving for this place. haha.. yes, i like the crabmeat linguini! the kind of liking thats enuff to make me wana return again for it. The crab meat was generous and the taste was pretty robust.

for mum, i ordered the seafood crustacean oil spaghetti ($20).....

a closer up view....

as always, taste was good, prawns were crunchy. mum said its nice too!

actually by the time we were done, because of the extra smoked salmon foccacia, we were already pretty full. But well, still wana let my parents try their desserts.

I was gonna order their chocolate gateau with ice cream ($13) and the pandan panna cotta but the server kinda recommended the strawberry cheese cake ($9) so we went for the chocolate gateau and we took his suggestion.

the chocolate gateau with ice cream.....

and the oozing out chocolate....

yes, the sinfully good molten chocolate oozes out and combined wif ice cream its truly divine.

and the strawberry cheesecake.....

took me by surprise coz i was kinda expecting it to be like the usual cake form. didnt expect it to be served in a glass like ice cream....

the cheese...

the strawberry and the 'cake'.. or should i call it biscuit?

its really good! especially the biscuit part! imagine the rich and flavourful biscuit, the strawberries and the cheese... the combination was OOooo... actually i'd prefer if the cheese was not as thick but overall it was still wow.

i think the lunch experiences at wild rocket kinda exceeds the dinner experience.

Hong Kong Kim Gary Restaurant

We went to Kim Gary (Vivo City) for dinner. Squiddy chose the place....

there was quite a queue. in fact, vivo was pretty crowded.

The interior....

The drinks came first....

3 of us ordered the set meal which was quite a good deal (sorry, i cannot remember the prices).

I ordered a butter and condensed milk toast to share (only 70 cents)....

i ordered the thin one coz its like 3 times cheaper? haha.. the thick one was like $2 plus... 5 of us shared ... the four of them all think its really nice (except me). I think i kinda prefer the ya kun type... but they all say its very nice.. haha.. so maybe u guys can try it urselves to see if u like it.

our meal came wif soup of the day and drinks (above). the soup was a choice of tomato or cream...

served in a small lil cup. the cream soup was... not nice. i mean its not terrible but just not nice. The tomato soup was slightly better but also not wonderful.

Lea's nissin noodle wif luncheon meat came....

it was just ok. We kinda missed the nissin noodle we had during our first visit to Central. Dat was so good! But even the standards of the one at Central has dropped.

Dar dar ordered a mushroom and pork chop rice thingy....

the rice was not bad.. rather fragrant wif the slight patches of the mushroom sauce. As for the pork chop, i found it too sweet... didnt particularly find it nice. But i think dar likes it.

Eekoon and Elyn ordered the pork chop baked rice....

before eating they told me it'd be very nice. Their baked rice comes with the option of tomato or cream base. Both of them chose the tomato based. I tried, tastes alright to me.

as for myself, i went for the fish baked rice, cream base.....

i personally think its my favourite dish for tonight! haha.. its quite nice.. fresh fish, rice is rather tasty especially if u see the last pic, they place some kinda leaf below and that leaf (sorry, duno the name) gives the rice a mild fragrant taste and smell. Pretty good! I noticed their baked rice is rather plain.. plain as in w/o any other ingredients, no onion etc... but my fish baked rice overall was rather acceptable.

Marcial Kobe

i also saw this shop selling mini donuts!

Marcial Kobe...

check out the mini donuts.....

they all look so cute dun they?

just to show u how mini they are....

costs $4 for a pack of 12. Each donut was quite crispy. I guess its cute and quite a novelty but im pretty sure i wun buy it again because in my view, donuts should taste soft and not crispy. haha...

I want Krispy Kreme!!

Petit Provence

Petit Provence....

Basement 1 of The Central

they seemed to haf some interesting items like this choco wassant thingy...

a closer up view....

Each one is shaped like a crossiant. I thot, since its only 50 cents, i'd give it a try. Well, i didnt like it. I mean the texture was soft... but i duno.. i just didnt find it tasty and i cant taste much of the custard. of coz, this is very subjective, maybe u'll like it.

Marutama Ramen

Marutama Ramen....

Located on level 3 of The Central. Was pretty packed for lunch...

its got a rather authentic japanese decor.....

the menu... pretty compact....

to be honest, not much variety (but the ramen is darn good!)...

the chefs....

i happened to be sitting along the counter wif these 2 big plates of tamago in front of me....

looks so delectable! But costs $8 so i didnt order.

i ordered a side of chicken meatballs ($5) ....

a closer up view...

the meatballs, in my view werent very impressive. I mean it was alright but taste was quite mild maybe coz its chicken.

my Char Siu Iri Ramen ($17) with toppings of pork belly stewed in soya sauce ($5) and Seasoned egg ($1)....

Freaking expensive if u ask me. But... freaking good also.

I'd say every item in the bowl deserves special highlight coz everything was so good!

the soup was tasty yet not to salty. though i usually tend to like saltish or heavier flavouring, this one was just nice... in fact its good! even the colour looks exceptionally appetising!

the char siu.....

it was soft and seasoned nicely. Mmmmm... so far compared to the rest of the japanese char siu i've tried (i dare say in my entire life), this one is the best!

and the springy noodles.....

nt gerlard at all.. doesnt make me feel that its overfilling but just nice.

the pork belly stewed in soya sauce....

Oooo.. so good! Love the fact dat it doesnt come wif skin.. tender meat.... yummilious taste! NICE!

and the egg... its a i guess u can consider it hard boiled but the yolk was still semi-liquid....

Mmmmm Mmmm!!

Definitely going back again. i highly recommend this! I feel dat dar dar, loh gong zai, uncle sq, meixin and lea will probably like this too..... MMmmmmmmm~

Tao Kae Noi

During break, i went wif Elsa to Sing Post and i bought this!

tomato sauce favour.... comparatively, i still prefer the original flavour. But if u compare this to the wasabi or the spicy one, this would be my second choice. The original one is so good! *thumbs up*

Ji De Chi

after dinner, i wanted to walk over to tong shui to buy desserts back for my parents (my dad kinda likes their desserts).. but we noticed that along the same stretch where xian de lai is, theres a Ji De Chi....

Located along 8 Liang Seah Street... and it seemed to appear like its got considerably more customers and tons of celeb pics (haha)... and so we decided to give it a try....

having here, we shared a steamed milk, mango with grapefruit juice and some white fungus with papaya thingy...

average price ranges from $2 - $4. as u may have already known, i dun like mango.. but ah yee said their mango is not bad.. uncle sq liked it so much! said its comparable to hotel standards. the steamed egg was not bad... the papaya one was also alright.. i'd say its alright but not outstanding.

Xian De Lai

Seeing this emperor robe, i bet crabby and squiddy would be able to tell where i went for steamboat...

haha.. yes, dats right! its xian de lai! Located along Liang Seah Street. Out of my so many times here, its one of the very few times i got level 1 seats (its usually very packed)... and naturally, one of the very few times when i get a very good view of the robe. haha

anyway, since we've been here so many times, theres no need to intro all the items they have.

here's some of the items we ordered....

the steamboat....

one of their speciality thats only available here is the meatballs....

its got a nice texture and its big. very yummy!

and one of my personal liking is their shanghai nian gao...

its a lil sticky upon cooked and goes really well wif one of their sesame sauce....

Dinner for 3 came up to $70 plus with 3 drinks!
